A renovation project is underway at a two-story, three-unit residential building located at 4525 S Hermitage Avenue in Back of the Yards. The self-certified project was approved on November 29, following a 195-day development period.
Snatching the 28th spot in our year-end countdown is the redevelopment of the former Sears store at 4712 W Irving Park Road in Portage Park. Sitting on the six-corner intersection with N Cicero Avenue and N Milwaukee Avenue, the project adds density to the intersection anchored by Clarendale Six Corners which took the 31st spot in our 2021 countdown. Finishing touches are currently being added by developer and general contractor Novak Construction.
Structural work has filled out for a new Aldi grocery store at 3930 N Kilpatrick Avenue in Portage Park. This commercial project transforms a vacant lot into a single-story venue with 21,000 square feet of retail space.
A permit has been issued for a renovation project at 2110 W 21st Place in Heart of Chicago. The self-certified permit for the project was issued on November 28.
Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments, ranking 29th in the year-end countdown, is a nine-story affordable housing project at 1203 N California Avenue, adjacent to Humboldt Park. Occupying the site of a formerly vacant lot, this 83,000-square-foot structure honors the legacy of Puerto Rican activist Pedro Albizu Campos. The Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) spearheads the project, collaborating with Pappageorge Haymes for the architectural design. The development will incorporate 2,500 square feet of retail space on the first floor and 64 units of affordable housing on the upper levels.
