The transformation of the Thompson Center into the new Google HQ in The Loop continues, as the new glass skin continues to wrap around the building’s skeleton. As is well known by now, the Prime Group is renovating the former state office building, with a deal in place to sell it to Google upon completion. Google plans to move employees in next year.
Three new dwelling units have been permitted for construction by the City of Chicago at 623 North Hamlin Avenue in Humboldt Park. The permit came through on August 25 with a reported cost of $350,000. Its application is dated June 16, 2025.
The Evanston Land Use Commission has voted against the mixed-use proposal at 605 Davis Street in Evanston. Located near the corner of Davis Street and Chicago Avenue, the tower is the third proposal for the site from Vermilion Development, which has owned the parcel for several years. While the vote may delay the project, the Evanston City Council will have the final say later this year.
A new three-story with basement, two-unit building is set to replace a 140-year-old multi-unit residence at 1404 West George Street in Lake View. A permit was issued August 21 allowing construction to begin. It came through with a reported cost of $920,000 three months after its May 19 application date.
A new funding scheme has been announced for the upcoming redevelopment of the Immaculata High School campus at 640 West Irving Park Road in Uptown. Located at the corner of North Marine Drive, the project was first revealed over four years ago by developer KGiles LLC and approved by the city in late 2022.
