Plan Commission Approves NOMA Mixed-Use Development In West Town

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a large new mixed-use development using various lots in West Town. Spread across a total of five lots predominantly centered around the intersection of W Grand Avenue and N Union Avenue, the project looks to feed off of the upcoming demand created by the nearby casino as well as the growing West Loop neighborhood within walking distance. The multi-phase proposal is being led by Fulton Market stalwart Shapack Partners which partnered with local firm Eckenhoff Saunders and New York-based ODA, known for their deconstructed style.

Two-Building ‘HUGO’ Development Reaches Full Height in River North

Construction has topped out for HUGO, a two-building mixed-use project by LG Development in River North. Located at 751 N Hudson Avenue and 411 W Chicago Avenue, the pair of nine-story structures will have a combined 230,000 square feet of floor space. HUGO will bring a total of 227 new apartments to the neighborhood as well as 19,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The underway buildings will sit close to one another, separated by an existing two-story masonry low rise.

New Permits Issued for 1946 S Desplaines Street in Lower West Side

A permit was issued earlier this week for a new three-story residential building at 1946 S Desplaines Street in Lower West Side. The owner is listed as Lochomes LLC. The new construction plans for the project include three units, a rear porch, and a detached three-vehicle garage. The project will be replacing a vacant lot.

Cladding Begins for 920 N Wells Street in Near North Side

Glass and metal installation has begun at 920 N Wells Street, a 21-story mixed-use building in Near North Side. JDL, the same developer behind the nearby One Chicago, is behind this current structure and the broader North Union masterplan. This $1.3 billion, 8.1-acre mega-development will span multiple blocks of land once owned by the Moody Bible Institute.

Updated Plans Revealed For Residential Development At 3710 N Kenmore Avenue In Wrigleyville

Updated plans have been revealed for a residential development at 3710 N Kenmore Avenue in Wrigleyville. Located just north of the intersection with W Waveland Avenue behind some of the famed Wrigley Rooftops, the new construction will replace an existing two-story house in the popular area. Local developer Aaron Friedman, who owns multiple properties nearby, is behind the project. At the moment an architect has not been revealed.

Permits Issued For 1920 N Howe Street In Lincoln Park

A new permit was issued for the construction of a residential development at 1920 N Howe Street in Lincoln Park. Located just south of the intersection with W Armitage Avenue, the site is within walking distance to Oz Park and Steppenwolf Theater as well as plenty of shopping and dining. The property is being developed by a private owner with McCormack Sean Baccus serving as the architect on record.

Initial Funding Announced For Northwestern Research Building Expansion In Streeterville

New funding has been secured for the expansion of the Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center at 303 E Superior Street in Streeterville. Located just east of the intersection with N Fairbanks Court, the current structure operated by Northwestern University is sandwiched between two medical office high-rises near their downtown hospital. The university, which recently announced a redesign of Ryan Field in Evanston, is now moving forward with its second phase which is expected to use the same team as phase one including global firm Perkins & Will along with engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti.

Construction Tops Out for 3217 N Clark Street in Lakeview East

Work has reached full height for 3217 N Clark Street, a five-story mixed-use building under construction in Lakeview East. The new structure will have space for ground-level retail, as well as 32 residential units on the upper levels. This project, filed under the name 3211 N Clark LLC, is replacing a former parking lot.

New Permits Issued for 2031 W Belmont Avenue in the North Center

A new permit was issued this week for the construction of a four-story mixed-use construction located at 2031 W Belmont Avenue in Bricktown within the North Center neighborhood. The permit’s owners have been listed as 2031 Belmont LLC and plans indicate there will be three total units and a basement. The building will feature retail space located on the first floor. The building will have a roof deck and there will be rear decks on the second through fourth levels, as well as a detached two-vehicle garage with its own roofdeck. The building will replace a vacant lot that is currently used for parking.

1000M Reaches Main Tower Portion in South Loop

Now that the slanted cantilever section above the podium is complete, structural work has begun on the main tower component for the 73-story 1000M residential building at 1000 S Michigan Avenue in South Loop. The developer team of JK Equities, Time Equities, and Oak Capitals have planned for 738 rental units in this most recent building iteration. As Chicago’s second tallest active construction project (behind the 850-foot-tall Salesforce Tower), the skyscraper will stand 788 feet upon completion.
