Progress continues at a steady pace at the 150 E Ontario Street hotel project in Streeterville, as construction is currently wrapping up on the third level and now moving on to the fourth. The 28-story, 345-foot-tall structure is set to become the latest addition to the RIU Hotels and Resorts chain, which is set to host 388 guest rooms and be anchored by a large lobby and a cafe at the southeast corner. The Prime Group is spearheading the project as developer.

Designed by Lucien LaGrange Studio, 150 E Ontario Street’s white masonry facade design differentiates itself both from the surrounding Streeterville high rises and much of the city’s current construction. Other architectural features will include various terraced setbacks, a dual-tower crown with prominent cornices, and columns throughout.

The location provides close access to a variety of public transportation options within a short walking distance. Bus services for Routes 2, 3, and 10 are conveniently available a block away, while the CTA Red Line is an eight-minute walk southwest at Grand station.

  1. I know there’s a lot of hate for this building, but I think it’s decent especially as a way to have a little variety. It also engages the street level pretty nicely. I definitely don’t want all new buildings looking like this, but that’s the point. This building is actually refreshing now compared to all the glass boxes going up especially the ones with giant parking podiums.

  2. If the facade is well done, this could be pretty nice for the area. Streeterville high-rises are mostly glass and steel so this could be a good way to break it up. The Ralph Lauren store on Michigan is a good example. It’s kinda concrete-ish but has good neoclassical gestures that came out nicely.
