Dead by Design #2 – Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and Residence Tower in Streeterville

Next in our procession of unbuilt Chicago skyscrapers is the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and Residence Tower, a 107-story supertall that would have been located along North Park Drive, less than a block from the river in Streeterville. Compared to existing Chicago structures, if built, the mixed-use project would have been the third tallest in the city with a 1,265-foot height. More broadly, if it were built at the time of its proposal in 2007, it would have been the seventh tallest in the world. The Prime Group in partnership with Fordham Co. had planned for a three-year construction timeline starting in 2009 and wrapping up in 2012.

New Permit Issued for 3501 S Union Avenue in Bridgeport

New permits were issued for a three-story residential building located at 3501 S Union Avenue in the Bridgeport neighborhood. The owner is listed as Henry Tam and plans indicate this project will be a three-flat with an accompanying one-story garage. The building was formerly home to Morrie O’Malley’s Hot Dogs. We reported on the demolition permit which was issued earlier this year.

Groundbreaking Announced For 1245 W Fulton Market Street In West Loop

New details have been revealed for the groundbreaking of the mixed-use development at 1245 W Fulton Market Street in the West Loop. Located on the intersection with N Elizabeth Street, the new structure replaces a group of empty lots and snakes around an existing art gallery that will remain. West Loop stalwarts Sterling Bay have teamed up with Colorado-based Ascentris, the same team as 160 N Morgan Street, to co-develop the property being designed by local firm Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture.
