Salesforce Tower Core Tops Out in River North

This week, the concrete core for Chicago’s Salesforce Tower reached its full height, marking a key milestone for the 60-story skyscraper rising at 333 W Wolf Point Plaza along the confluence of the Chicago River. As noted in a LinkedIn post by the general contractor Walsh Construction, the final height of the core stands 840 feet, falling in line with recent speculation of a 15-foot height bump. Furthermore, it appears that the final architectural height of the edifice will now be 850 feet above the river walk, once the superstructure is accounted for.

The Chicago Zoning Board of Appeals has approved a mixed-use development at 812 W Adams Street in Greektown. Located on the corner with S Halsted Street, the lot is currently occupied by a one-story structure that once held the Greek staples of Santorini and Pegasus restaurants and a small parking lot. Developer Luxe Suites Chicago LLC has teamed up with local design firm Axios Architects on the project that required two approvals from the board.

Permits were issued yesterday for a new three-story residential building located at 1545 N Artesian Avenue in the West Town neighborhood. The lot is currently unoccupied. The permit owner is listed as Sustainabuild LLC and plans indicate that the scope of the project will include three total units, each equipped with outdoor space at the rear. There will be a rooftop deck with an enclosed staircase. Plans also show a detached three-car garage with its own rooftop deck. The construction will replace a structure on a shared lot.

Shedd Aquarium Announces Multi-Year Renovation

The Shedd Aquarium has just revealed the initial details of its Centennial Commitment renovation for its original building at 1200 S DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Museum Campus. The project is part of the larger $500 million Centennial Commitment program in anticipation for its 100th celebration in 2030. The effort is led by the aquarium itself under the guidance of president and CEO Bridget Coughlin who took over in 2016.
