Located on the northwestern extents of the city, the 11.25 square mile complex is one of the busiest in the world boasting five million square feet of terminal space and six parallel runways. Now a new set of concourses and terminal have received the green light and completion dates as a culmination of a modernization project that began nearly 16 years ago led by the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA).

New Hampton Inn & Suites Reaches Fourth Floor in Illinois Medical District

Construction has reached the halfway mark for a new six-story Hampton Inn & Suites hotel at 710 S Seeley Avenue in the Illinois Medical District. The 135-key hotel is being developed by East Lake Management & Development as part of a larger scheme known as Gateway. The plans reside on the trapezoidal block bound by Harrison, Damen, Ogden, and Hoyne. A new inner driveway has been created under Seeley Avenue, hence the address name.

Further Funding Approved for Albany Terrace Apartments and Irene McCoy Gaines Apartments

The City of Chicago has awarded further funding to both the Albany Terrace Apartments and the Irene McCoy Gaines Apartments. The Albany Terrace Apartments is located at 3030 W 21st Place in the South Lawndale community and yields 350 units in a 17-story tower, including a total of 32 mobility-accessible units and 37 sensory adaptable units in a senior living complex that was originally built in 1974. The 17-story Irene McCoy Gaines Apartments were constructed in 1964 and named in honor of the first African American woman to run for a seat in the Illinois Legislature. The senior living property is located at 3700 W Congress Parkway in East Garfield Park and is composed of 151 studio and one-bedroom apartments including 30 ADA-accessible units. According to the decision, both buildings are receiving the funding to contribute towards critical systems upgrades garnered by way of a financial proposal that was approved by City Council on Friday of last week.

City Announces Sale Of Over 2,000 Lots Across South And West Sides

The City of Chicago has announced a new consolidated program to sell over 2,000 city-owned lots across various neighborhoods in the south and west sides. Focusing on neighborhoods like Englewood, West Englewood, New City, Garfield Park, North Lawndale, and Austin, the program aims at creating an equitable path for property ownership in areas that have long suffered from widespread disinvestment. Dubbed ChiBlockBuilder, it is being led by the Department of Planning and Development and city commissioner Maurice Cox with the blessing of Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

City Council Approves Funding to Preserve Grocery Access on West and South Side

On November 18th the Department of Planning and Development announced a recent City Council decision to award funding to neighborhood grocer Yellow Banana LLC. Yellow Banana will be using the funding to aid in acquiring and rehabilitating a total of six supermarkets on the west and south sides of the city. The grocery stores are all Save A Lot supermarkets and have been acquired via $13.5 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF).

225 N Elizabeth Street Prepares to Rise in Fulton Market

The tower crane stump and installed foundations can be seen at 225 N Elizabeth Street, set to give way to a new 28-story, 314-foot building in Fulton Market District. Developer Sterling Bay and partnering private equity firm Ascentris are behind this mixed-use project, which will provide 350 new apartment units atop ground-level retail.

Initial Funds Approved For mHUB Conversion Of 240 N Ashland Avenue In West Loop

The Chicago Community Development Commission has approved initial funds for the redevelopment of the structure at 240 N Ashland Avenue in the West Loop. Located on the southwest corner with W Fulton Street, the famed clocktower building has sat vacant for a few years and is being proposed to become the new home for local incubator mHUB. The non-profit company themselves is behind the efforts, and while no architect has been revealed for the project, a few renderings have also been revealed.

Demolition permits have been issued for 1825 W School Street in North Center. The permit owner is listed as School View LLC. The permit allows for the removal of the existing two-story frame residence. The site has RS-3 zoning with no indication of a change of use.

Plan Commission Approves Affordable Mixed-Use Development At 4715 N Western Avenue In Lincoln Square

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved updated plans for the mixed-use development at 4715 N Western Avenue and details revealed for the new CTA transit plaza in Lincoln Square. Located on the northeast corner with W Leland Avenue, the project received initial funding approval from the Community Development Commission last month including the sale of the city-owned parking lot it will replace. The proposed building is being led by developer The Community Builders who have teamed up with local firm DesignBridge known for working on other affordable projects in Chicago.
