A three-flat has begun construction at 1145 West 17th Street in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, and it appears to be someone’s passion project. Caroline & Evan’s Dream House is the entity listed as the owner of the property in the permit issued by the city on September 26 of this year. It replaces a two-story multi-unit residence that was demolished in May.

A new construction permit issued on September 26 by the City of Chicago allows for a four-story with basement, three-unit building, and names Michael J Leary as the architect. There is to be an elevated deck on the back of the building, and a detached two-car garage off the alley at the rear of the lot. A zoning amendment was approved in March to reduce the side setbacks. Manicorp, Inc. is the general contractor, and they have begun foundation work at the site.

Residents of Caroline and Evan’s Dream House will live within a two-block walk of CTA bus service via Route 18. For north-south bus lines, Routes 9 and X9 stop just over half a mile west at Ashland Avenue, and Routes 8 and 62 buses are available half a mile east at Halsted Street. The Halsted Street Metra BNSF train station is also just over half a mile away, to the northeast. The 18 bus can be used to connect with the nearest elevated train, at the 18th Pink Line platform, about three-quarters of a mile west.
