Construction is underway for Enclave Galewood, a residential development in the Galewood neighborhood at the western edge of Chicago’s Austin Community Area. Developers Harlem Irving Companies and Novak Construction got permits to build all phases of their project in late October of this year. Permits have been submitted for the residential development at 1619 N Neva Avenue in Galewood. Located just west of the intersection with N Harlem Avenue, the proposal replaces a large vacant lot within the neighborhood. The multi-phase project is being developed by Novak Neva LLC, with local firm OKW Architects working on its design.
Preliminary landmark status has been granted to the Mars Candy Factory at 2019 N Oak Park Avenue in Galewood. Sitting on the intersection with W Armitage Avenue adjacent to the Mars Metra station, the large factory served an important role in Chicago’s confectionery history. The status was granted by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks at their latest meeting as it prepares to close in 2024.
A construction permit has been issued for a new industrial development located at 6311 W Dickens Avenue in Galewood. This new development is intended to treat wastewater discharge prior to entering the city’s sewer system, and will rise on a site that was previously used by a wholesale bakery.
