Development for a new residential project at 1542 N Mohawk Street in Old Town is underway. The self-certified permit for the project was issued on November 20, just 26 days after its submission.
The project, led by owners Todd and Kara Dziedzic, involves the construction of a four-story building which will house three residential units along with a basement. Architect John Hanna is responsible for its design, which includes a roof deck with an enclosure, a fourth-floor front deck, and a rear four-story porch and stairs. In addition, the property will feature a rear three-car garage, topped with a roof deck, providing ample parking space and outdoor leisure area.
General construction for 1542 N Mohawk Street will be overseen by 5 Seasons Development Company. Masonry work will be a joint effort between Erris Builders and R D Y Construction Inc.
The reported budget for the project is $1,544,250, and permit fees totaled $6,951.68. When complete, residents of 1542 N Mohawk Street will be located steps from stops for the 9 and 72 bus lines, and will be a short 5 minute walk from the Sedgwick CTA Station, which services the Brown and Purple lines.

I’m not usually fussy about historic preservation, but I fear we may lose all of our worker’s cottages if we’re not careful.
How can Old Town’s preservation be so lax??
