Commission on Chicago Landmarks Approves Tax Incentive For Loop Hotel

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved the final certification for tax incentives for the Chicago & North Western Railway Office Building at 226 W Jackson Boulevard in the heart of downtown The Loop. The historical building recently went through a full rehab converting it into a dual-flag Hilton hotel, located on the corner of Jackson Boulevard and S Franklin Street. The approval grants the project a Class L Property Tax Incentive which will provide it with tax breaks for the next 12 years.

Preliminary Landmark Status Approved For Puerto Rican Flag Markers In Humboldt Park

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved preliminary landmark status to the Puerto Rican flag markers located along W Division Street in Humboldt Park. Bookending a stretch of the road known for its Puerto Rican heritage, population, and businesses, the easternmost flag stands near the intersection with N Artesian Avenue and the westernmost at the intersection with N Mozart Street. The designation is a big win in the path towards fully becoming landmarks that will unlock maintenance funding and historical plaques.

Potential Groundbreaking Date Announced For 400 N Lake Shore Drive In Streeterville

A potential groundbreaking date has been revealed for the residential towers at 400 N Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville. Located on the long vacant site of the failed Chicago Spire development, the two new towers would partially utilize the foundation hole left by the Spire and provide a cap to the Ogden Slip. Developer Related Midwest who is also behind The 78 near the South Loop is working with globally famous skyscraper firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill on the design, the firm responsible for a number of Chicago’s major skyscrapers.

Water Tower Place Changes Hands On Michigan Avenue

The famed Water Tower Place Mall at 835 N Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile has been turned over to its lender. Located between E Chestnut Street and E Pearson Street just south of the John Hancock Tower, the retail location has occupied the full block site since the 1970’s. Most recently owned by New York-based Brookfield Properties who operate retail locations across the nation, the mall will now be in the hands of MetLife Investment Management which is a part of the insurance company.

Initial Details Revealed For A Residential Development At 5853 N Broadway In Edgewater

Initial plans have been revealed for an affordable residential development at 5853 N Broadway in Edgewater. Located just south of the intersection with W Thorndale Avenue, the project would replace an existing one-story masonry building and its parking lot adjacent to the Broadway Armory community center. The current structure is utilized by the Streets and Sanitation Department, who will vacate the property. Local developer Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation is working with Landon Bone Baker Architects on the design of the new mid-rise.
