City Council Approves 357 N Green Street In West Loop

The Chicago city council has approved the mixed-use development at 357 N Green Street in the West Loop. Sitting on a unique wedged lot with N Halsted Street to the east, the site has long been vacant as it is traversed by the Kennedy Expressway on the northeast corner and is surrounded by different modes of transit. However now Canadian-developer Onni Group, who recently revealed their redesigned tower for Halsted Pointe nearby, is tackling the challenge with SCB serving as the architect and Confluence working on its landscape design.

City Council Approves Final Landmark Designation For Epworth Church

The Chicago City Council has approved the final landmark designation for the Epworth Church at 5153 N Kenmore Avenue in Edgewater. Located south of the intersection with W Berwyn Avenue near Foster Beach, demolition efforts last year by a developer trying to construct residential on the site set-off the landmark process. Now the City Council has officially protected the structure which does not close it off to redevelopment opportunities.

City Council Approves Tower At 1300 W Carroll Avenue In West Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the latest plans for 1300 W Carroll Avenue in the West Loop. Located on the corner with N Elizabeth Street just north of the upcoming 225 N Elizabeth in the westward expanding skyline, it replaces the now vacant site which was the former home of the ADM Wheat Mill Silos. While the multi-phase project was originally proposed in 2021 and having gone through a handful of design changes since, developer Sterling Bay has received its final approval for the SOM-designed structure prior to permits.

City Council Approves New Venue In West Town

The Chicago City Council has approved the commercial development at 1675 N Elston Avenue in West Town. Located near the intersection with W Wabansia Avenue and near both Lincoln Yards and the Salt Shed, the project will reuse an existing storage building and adjacent vacant lot. Called ‘The Outset’, the music venue is being developed by a team under the name 1675 Holdings LLC with an undisclosed architect.

Funding Announced For Dance Center In Washington Park

Additional funding has been announced for a new dance and community center at 5339 S State Street in Washington Park. Located just north of the intersection with E 54th Street and sandwiched between the namesake park and highway, the new facility will replace a long standing set of vacant lots owned by the city. The team behind the proposal is the Deeply Rooted Dance Company who currently operates downtown; no architect has been announced.
