City Council Approves New Venue In West Town

The Chicago City Council has approved the commercial development at 1675 N Elston Avenue in West Town. Located near the intersection with W Wabansia Avenue and near both Lincoln Yards and the Salt Shed, the project will reuse an existing storage building and adjacent vacant lot. Called ‘The Outset’, the music venue is being developed by a team under the name 1675 Holdings LLC with an undisclosed architect.

Funding Announced For Dance Center In Washington Park

Additional funding has been announced for a new dance and community center at 5339 S State Street in Washington Park. Located just north of the intersection with E 54th Street and sandwiched between the namesake park and highway, the new facility will replace a long standing set of vacant lots owned by the city. The team behind the proposal is the Deeply Rooted Dance Company who currently operates downtown; no architect has been announced.

Updated Plans Revealed For Mixed-Use Development Near Lincoln Yards

Updated plans have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 2033 N Kingsbury Avenue in Lincoln Park. Located near the intersection with N Clybourn Avenue and fronting the northern end of the Lincoln Yards megadevelopment, plans for the project were originally revealed last year and have received a substantial redesign. Also being led by Sterling Bay, the team behind Lincoln Yards brought in local firm Pappageorge Haymes to work on its design which will help kickstart some large changes in the area.

Illinois Health Review Board Approves UChicago Cancer Center In Hyde Park

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board has approved the new medical building at 5654 S Drexel Avenue within the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. Sitting on the intersection with E 57th Street and replacing a surface parking lot, the new building will be the first free-standing cancer pavilion in the city. The university and UChicago Medicine are behind the proposal which is being designed by local firm CannonDesign.

Plan Commission Approves Mixed-Use Development In West Englewood

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the mixed-use development at 6206 S Racine Avenue in West Englewood. Located on the intersection with W 62nd Street, the proposal is a redevelopment of a vacant school building which housed Woods Elementary that closed in 2013. Now a development team called ‘Go Green’ made up of Gorman & Company LLC, the Inner-City Muslim Action Network, Resident Association of Greater Englewood, Team Englewood, and E.G. Woode is leading the charge with Nia Architects on the design.
