Amtrak Gains Support For Union Station And Regional Rail Expansion From Across The Midwest

New details and support has been revealed for proposed upgrades to Union Station in West Loop Gate and regional rail infrastructure. The historic headhouse at 225 S Canal Street just west of the city’s financial district has seen extensive upgrades in the last few years, including having the glass roof of its grand hall restored and sealed. Now it will be the centerpiece of the Midwest’s future rail strategy which is seeking funds from the recently announced $1.2 trillion federal infrastructure bill, led by Amtrak and the City of Chicago.

Redesign And Extension Approved For 130 N Franklin Street In The Loop

An extension has been granted and a redesign revealed for the mixed-use development at 130 N Franklin Street in The Loop. Located on the southwest corner with W Randolph Street, news of the proposal broke back in 2015 as a replacement of an existing empty lot along with a surface parking lot as well. Struggling to execute a tower on it, developer Tishman Speyer was granted an extension on their previous approval due to the last two years. The team at Tishman have been leading the efforts with local architecture firm Krueck Sexton Partners on all iterations of the design.

Groundbreaking Held For New Greater Chicago Food Depository Building In Archer Heights

A groundbreaking has been held for the new commercial building at 4100 W Ann Lurie Place in Archer Heights. Located just west of the intersection with S Pulaski Road, the new structure will add on to the massive warehouse and kitchen building that currently occupies the site along with demolishing the empty and cracking concrete lot next door. The project is being led and developed by the Greater Chicago Food Depository who is working with Skender to build out the new facility.

Updated plans have been approved for the mixed-use redevelopment at 2618 N Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square. Located on the six-corner intersection of the neighborhood, across the street from the CTA Blue Line station and Centennial Monument, the existing structure has gone through various owners with failed plans as well. Now Blue Star Properties and Marc Realty have come back with a new revised plan for the former Grace Furniture building which is being designed by local architecture firm K2 Studio.

The initial finalists for the 2022 Pritzker Traubert Foundation Chicago Prize have been announced across various city neighborhoods. The new competition started this year by the foundation was created with the belief that all Chicagoans should have equal access to economic opportunity. The six finalists are vying for a $10 million award, as a part of a larger $30 million commitment to community development on the city’s south and west sides over the next five years according to their website.
