Framework Plan Revealed For Redevelopment Of Downtown Gary Indiana

Initial details have been revealed for a redevelopment of part of downtown Gary, Indiana centered around 1 Genesis Center Plaza. The multi-block development will demolish the long vacant convention center and repurpose multiple surface lots around it, bound by the I-90 to the north and the baseball stadium home to the Gary SouthShore RailCats. The new framework plan is being proposed by the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority, Lake County Government, the city of Gary, and other smaller public and private entities.

Design Work Continues On Replacement Of Metra UP North Bridges

Design development continues for the upcoming replacement of multiple bridges on Metra’s UP North Line across the north side. The work comes as the existing bridges push over 120-years in age with most of them held up by rusted columns, however the project has been a point of contention for locals since its announcement in 2021. The project is being led by Metra themselves who recently held its second community meeting on the proposed design.

City Council Approves Land Sale For Bella Noir Wellness Hub In Bronzeville

The Chicago City Council has approved the land sale for the mixed-use Bella Noir Wellness Hub at 601 E 47th Street in Bronzeville. Located on the southeast corner with S St Lawrence Avenue and a few blocks north of Washington Park, the project will replace a vacant lot adjacent to the upcoming proposal from Two Fish Crab Shack. The project is being developed by Bella Noir LLC and McLaurin Development who are working with SEEK Design + Architecture.

Initial Efforts Advance For Peotone Airport In South Suburbs

Initial efforts have been advanced for the exploration of a new Chicagoland airport in Monee within Will County. Commonly referred to as Peotone Airport for the namesake town just to the south of it, the new facility will build upon the current Bult Field at 28261 S Kedzie Avenue. The push to build an airport here has been ongoing for over 50 years and now state legislators have passed a new bill requiring the Illinois Department of Transportation to start working towards a proposal.

Contractor Awarded For Austin Green Line Station Reconstruction

In a wave of continuous improvements, the Chicago Transit Board has awarded the construction contract for the Austin Green Line Station. Located at 351 N Austin Boulevard within the Austin neighborhood, the project comes at a time when the Chicago Transit Authority is working on making all of its stations fully accessible by 2038. The project is being led by the CTA itself although an architect is currently unknown.
