Initial Details Revealed For 79th Street Streetscape Improvements In Auburn Gresham

Initial details and a community feedback survey have been revealed for upcoming renovations to the 79th Street corridor in Auburn Gresham. As part of the greater Invest South/West initiative that is also bringing two multi-unit buildings nearby, the project aims to refresh an area of W 79th Street from S Fielding Avenue to S Paulina Street and a smaller section of S Halsted Street from W 78th Street to W 80th Street. The plan was unveiled at a recent community meeting and is being led by Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) with Spaan Tech Inc, Jacobs Engineering Group, and Site Design Group among others.

City Council Approves Funding For Clarendon Community Center Renovations In Uptown

The Chicago City Council has approved a financial package for the renovation of the Clarendon Community Center in Uptown. Located at 4501 N Clarendon Avenue near the intersection with W Montrose Avenue and just west of Lincoln Park and S DuSable Lake Shore Drive, the existing structure will see a major rehab led by Chicago Park District with local design firms Booth Hansen and Site Design Group working on the new grounds.

City Council Approves Land Purchase For Affordable Housing In Pilsen

The Chicago City Council has approved the acquisition of various vacant city lots in Pilsen for the creation of affordable housing. The lots are located at the intersection of S Peoria Street and W 18th Street and represent the largest developable property in the neighborhood and future construction would continue the vibrant street wall along 18th Street. The $12 million purchase of the 6.3 acres by the city brings the tally of money spent towards affordable housing up to $1 billion, a major investment in many changing communities.

Funding Proposed For Congress Theater Redevelopment In Logan Square

The Chicago Department of Planning and Development has introduced a notion to provide partial funding for the renovation of the long-vacant Congress Theater at 2135 N Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square. Located on the intersection with N Rockwell Street, the historical movie house has been in the process of securing a redevelopment for many years with local developer Baum Revision taking over the property mid-2021, working with Woodhouse Tinucci Architects on the new vision for the city landmark.

City Council Approves TIF For Various City Parks

The Chicago City Council has approved the financing for multiple small-improvement projects of various Chicago Park District properties across the city. A majority of the funds will come from various Tax Increment Financing districts, which are often supported by fees from developers.
