Chicago YIMBY’s Sister Cities series continues as we take a look at the newest building rising to redefine the skyline of Milwaukee. Located at 909 E Michigan Street on the intersection with N Lincoln Memorial Drive in downtown, ‘The Couture’ replaces the previous Downtown Transit Center and is directly across the street from the lakefront and Summerfest grounds. Developer Barrett Lo Visionary Development has been working on the project for a few years with Milwaukee-based RINKA Architecture.

Rush Plans Outpatient Center At 1601 N Harlem Avenue In Galewood

Updated plans have been announced for a new healthcare facility at 1601 N Harlem Avenue in the Galewood sub-neighborhood of Austin. Located on the northeastern corner of the intersection with W North Avenue near Lindberg Park, the new structure will replace a currently vacant lot that once held a large Sears store which was demolished in October of 2020. Now Rush Oak Park Hospital, part of the Rush Hospital system, has presented updated plans for their new outpatient center along with the site’s owner Novak Construction.

This year’s most endangered buildings list has been announced by Preservation Chicago featuring influential structures across the city. In its 21st year, the list covers multiple buildings that are at risk for demolition which have contributed to the city’s architectural and cultural legacy. Updated Details Revealed For Twisted Hippo Replacement In Albany Park

Updated details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 4343-4357 N Richmond Street in Irving Park. Located on the southeast corner with W Montrose Avenue a few blocks west from Horner Park, the multiple-building proposal replaces the previous Twisted Hippo structure which burned down in February 2022. Now developer Alan Candea is working with local firm Compass Architecture on their design after receiving community feedback on an earlier iteration.

City Council Approves 1016 W Jackson Boulevard In West Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use development at 1016 W Jackson Boulevard in the West Loop. Located on the intersection with S Morgan Street just southwest of Mary Bartelme Park, the new high-rise will replace a relatively young existing office building which was built 10-years ago. Now Mavrek Development is hoping to demolish the structure for the new BKV Group designed plan, with an additional lot across the alley for which no plans have been announced for.
