Now plans for the structure located on the southwest corner of the intersection with E 63rd Street received new life thanks to city-approved funding. Located on the northeast corner of the intersection with W Kinzie Street the project will break the mold of green-design with an innovative facade. Renderings were revealed earlier this year at a local community meeting, now developer Fortem Voluntas Partners is moving forward with the proposal designed by local firm Eckenhoff Saunders as it begins to gather momentum.

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the mixed-use development at 640 W Randolph Street in West Loop Gate. Located on the northwest corner of the intersection with N Des Plaines Street, the slim proposal will be replacing a surface parking lot and joining a row of brick-clad commercial buildings near the highway. The team of Vista Property Group and designers Antunovich Associates is back after working on 741 N Wells and 609 W Randolph nearby, utilizing a similar design language.

Chicago YIMBY continues its Sister Cities series with a closer look at a building that innovated when it was built a few years back, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Missouri. Located at 1601 Broadway Boulevard at the end of a visual corridor through the city’s convention center, the structure rises over the landscape atop of a small hill like two sails blowing in the wind. Developer Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation spent multiple years creating the center that was designed by famed architect Moshe Safdie.

City Council Approves 455 W Briar Place In Lake View East

The Chicago City Council has approved the residential development at 453-455 W Briar Place in Lake View East. Located on a quiet one-way street near the intersection with N Broadway, the building will replace a pair of single-family homes built in the early 1900s. News on the project broke back in December as it brought in a unique design language not often seen in newer developments, this was led by SGW Architecture who is contracted by the site’s developer GVP Development.
