Final Landmark Status Approved For Puerto Rican Flag Markers In Humboldt Park

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved the final landmark status for the Puerto Rican flag markers along W Division Street in Humboldt Park. Located on the east and west extents of what is known as Paseo Boricua, considered the most-densely commercialized Puerto Rican business district in the US, the flags serve as a visual reminder of the area’s heritage in the recent decades. Originally proposed by community leaders, the markers found at the intersections with N Mozart Street and N Artesian Avenue were designed by local firm DeStefano & Partners, and were unveiled to the public on Three Kings day in 1995.

Initial Funds Approval Granted For New Mixed-Use Development In Auburn Gresham

Initial Tax Increment Financing (TIF) approval has been granted by the Community Development Commission for a new mixed-use development at 757 and 838 W 79th Street in Auburn Gresham. Of the two sites, one is located on the intersection with S Green Street, and the other with S Halsted Street, both will be seeing new construction from the Invest South/West initiative winning project. Development team Evergreen Imagine, made up of Imagine Group and Evergreen Redevelopment, is working with local architecture firms Ross Barney Architects and Nia Architects on the revised proposal.

Initial Plans Revealed For A Mixed-Use Development In North Center

The Committee on Design has reviewed initial plans for a mixed-use development at 3950 N Damen Avenue and 3959 N Lincoln Avenue in North Center. Located on the six-corner intersection with W Irving Park Road, the two building proposal will replace a large parking lot and a MB Financial drive-thru bank west of Damen Avenue, as well redevelop and expand the existing 5/3 Bank building east of Lincoln Avenue. Developers CRG and Ravine Park Partners are working with local architecture firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative on the new design.

Initial Funds Approval Granted For New TimeLine Theater In Uptown

Initial Tax Increment Financing (TIF) approval has been granted for the new location of the TimeLine Theater Company at 5033 N Broadway in Uptown. Located just north of the intersection with W Argyle Street, near the CTA Red Line Argyle station which is undergoing renovation, the new arts center will utilize the bones of an existing five-story building while erecting a new facade. The theater itself is developing its new home which received City Council approval late last year and has been owned by the company since 2018, TimeLine is working with local architecture firm HGA on the design that borrows elements from the current structure.

Residential Development Proposed For 12 W Maple Street In Gold Coast

Updated plans were presented to the Committee on Design for a residential development at 12 W Maple Street in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Located just west of the intersection with N State Street and on the same block of the upcoming 1130 N State Street tower, the project looks to bring designer residences to the area. New developers Fern Hill, who is behind the upcoming Old Town redevelopment, and Calmwater Capital are working with architecture firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative on the design of the updated tower.
