Plan Commission Approves Baseball Fields In Jackson Park

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the construction and renovation of new baseball diamonds at 1987 E Hayes Drive within Jackson Park. Located towards the east side of the park across Wooded Island and near the Statue of the Republic, the project continues the vision of the park’s 2018 framework plan. The plan is being brought forward by the Chicago Park District as it continues to construct a better public green space for locals and visitors alike as the construction of the Obama Presidential Center.

Chicago Plan Commission Approves Roseland Medical District Master Plan

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the final iteration of the Roseland Medical District Masterplan in Roseland. Relatively bound by W 110th Street to the north, S Michigan Avenue to the east, W 112th Street to the south, and S Eggleston Avenue to the west, the plan would sit just east of the future 111th Street station from the CTA Red Line extension. The efforts are being led by the Roseland Medical District Commission who is working with local design firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture on the overall guide.

Groundbreaking Held For Covent Hotel Renovation At 2653 N Clark Street in Lincoln Park

A groundbreaking has been held for the mixed-use renovation of the old Covent Hotel at 2653 N Clark Street in Lincoln Park. Located on the corner with W Drummond Place, the project is part of a larger proposal which will bring a new market rate apartment building, however the existing rooming motel will be converted to affordable units. This is being led by the NHP Foundation and Drummond Development with local firm Weese Langley Weese Architects working on its design.

Amtrak Gains Support For Union Station And Regional Rail Expansion From Across The Midwest

New details and support has been revealed for proposed upgrades to Union Station in West Loop Gate and regional rail infrastructure. The historic headhouse at 225 S Canal Street just west of the city’s financial district has seen extensive upgrades in the last few years, including having the glass roof of its grand hall restored and sealed. Now it will be the centerpiece of the Midwest’s future rail strategy which is seeking funds from the recently announced $1.2 trillion federal infrastructure bill, led by Amtrak and the City of Chicago.

Redesign And Extension Approved For 130 N Franklin Street In The Loop

An extension has been granted and a redesign revealed for the mixed-use development at 130 N Franklin Street in The Loop. Located on the southwest corner with W Randolph Street, news of the proposal broke back in 2015 as a replacement of an existing empty lot along with a surface parking lot as well. Struggling to execute a tower on it, developer Tishman Speyer was granted an extension on their previous approval due to the last two years. The team at Tishman have been leading the efforts with local architecture firm Krueck Sexton Partners on all iterations of the design.
