Plans Revealed For West Side Learning Center Expansion In Austin

Plans have been revealed for the next phase of Malcolm X College’s West Side Learning Center at 4624 W Madison Street on the eastern edge of Austin. Located just west of the intersection with N Kenton Avenue and adjacent to a pair of elevated rail lines, the expansion would grow the class size for the small outpost of the college. The proposal is being developed by the college itself and the greater City Colleges as well, with an undisclosed architect working on its design.

Construction continues on the residential development at 1712 W Augusta Boulevard in West Town. Located just east of the intersection with N Hermitage Avenue, the new building replaces a vacant lot, closed alley, and a two-story garage structure. Developers Garner Development and Corwin Partners, who work with Jameson and Sotheby’s International, are completing the foundation of the Freedes Studio designed project.

Affordable Housing Redevelopment Approved In West Englewood

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the residential redevelopment at 6121 S Hermitage Avenue in West Englewood. Located on the corner with W 61st Street and bound by S Paulina Street to the east, the project will rehab the former Charles Earle Elementary School which was closed in 2013. Now developers Gorman & Company LLC and Phoenix Recovery Support Systems are working with local firm Beehyyve on the design for the property.

Potential Completion Date Revealed For Thompson Center Redevelopment

A potential completion date has been revealed for the Thompson Center redevelopment at 100 W Randolph Street in The Loop. The massive building from 1985 was designed by famed architect Helmut Jahn, who fought for its preservation prior to his death when news of the structure’s sale first broke. This culminated with Google purchasing the structure last year for $105 million from The Prime Group who was originally selected by the state to buy the property for $70 million from a group of bids.

Zoning Variances Approved For Next Phase Of United Yards

Zoning variances have been approved for the mixed-use development at 1515 W 47th Street in Back of the Yards. Located on the intersection with S Justine Street and replacing a vacant lot, the new building is part of the greater Invest South/West project dubbed ‘United Yards’. Developers Celadon Partners and Blackwood Group worked with local-architecture firm DesignBridge on the greater multi-building proposal.
