A final landmark recommendation has been made by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks for the Epworth Church at 5153 N Kenmore Avenue in Edgewater. Located south of the intersection with W Berwyn Avenue near Foster Beach, the structure’s landmark efforts were set off due to a demolition permit applied for last year by an undisclosed developer. Now the commission has recommended the approval of its landmark status to the church and adjoining community house.

A preliminary plan has been revealed for the future of the Mars Wrigley factory at 2019 N Oak Park Avenue in Galewood. Located on the intersection with W Armitage Avenue within the greater residential neighborhood, the factory dates back to 1929 and has seen multiple expansions over the years completing two others within the greater metro area. Now Mars is working with local residents to decide the fate of the massive multi-acre site.

A more precise completion date has been revealed for the mixed-use development at 655 W Madison Street in West Loop Gate as we take a closer look at its design. Located directly next to the Kennedy Expressway in the quickly growing neighborhood, the proposal replaces a surface parking lot with a multi-phase two-tower concept. Developer John Buck Company updated their website for the HOK– and JGMA-designed project, which will be managed by local real estate firm Madison Rose which is also in charge of One Chicago.

Potential Land Transfer Approved For Two Gardens In South And West Sides

The Community Development Commission has approved the potential land transfer for two gardens on the South and West Sides. Located at 3024 W 5th Avenue in East Garfield Park and 3302 E 92nd Street in South Chicago, both community gardens will replace vacant lots with much needed recreation space for locals. Although unlikely, the approval grants a small grace period in which other proposals for the lots will be considered prior to transferring the sites to land trust NeighborSpace.
