Details Revealed For New Community Health Hub In Austin

Details have been revealed for a new health facility at 5034 W Chicago Avenue in Austin. Located on the intersection with N Lawler Avenue, the new structure will replace a large vacant lot with a new community health hub. Plans are being developed by Stone Community Development Corp with Gregory Ramon Design Studio and TNS Studio working on its architecture.

Rising three stories and over 30 feet tall, plans for the center have been in the works for over a year having hosted multiple community outreach meetings earlier this year on its programming. With 24,480 square feet of space, a large majority of the space will be used by Lurie Children’s Hospital who is partnering with Stone Community Development. The two will utilize the hub to offer health services for children with bullying and gun-related trauma.

The ground floor will boast a large space for Stone with a multi-use room and large cafe, the rest will be for lurie with offices, teen lounge, and community rooms. There will also be a 30-vehicle parking lot in the rear. The second floor will contain a large health center for Lurie with multiple exam rooms, therapy offices, group therapy rooms, and waiting spaces as well.

Local community organization Thresholds will also utilize the space and some of the offices. The ground floor will be clad in a brick exterior with the upper floors will have a multi-colored panel facade. The project has received a majority of its approvals and will need to apply for building permits next, with a groundbreaking expected early next year and opening in the summer of 2025.
