New funding has been announced for a handful of businesses located in The Loop, with a focus around the LaSalle Street corridor. Announced earlier this month by Mayor Brandon Johnson, the distribution is the next step of the Small Business Improvement Fund created by former Mayor Lori Lightfoot in 2023 according to Block Club.
Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced the designation of new cultural districts across the city. The selection is part of the state-designated Cultural Districts Program established in 2023. Having announced ten as a whole across the state, six of these are within Chicago representing multiple cultures who have long called the city home.
Permits have been submitted for the residential development at 1619 N Neva Avenue in Galewood. Located just west of the intersection with N Harlem Avenue, the proposal replaces a large vacant lot within the neighborhood. The multi-phase project is being developed by Novak Neva LLC, with local firm OKW Architects working on its design.
Initial details have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 6114 S Drexel Avenue in Woodlawn. Located just south of the intersection with E 61st Street, renderings for the project have not been released at the moment. The development is being led by Graham Properties 4 LLC.
A groundbreaking has been held for a new community center at 4000 S Archer Avenue in Brighton Park. Located just east of the intersection with S California Avenue, the center will replace a vacant lot near Kelly Edward Park. The center will serve as the new headquarters for the Brighton Park Neighborhood Network (BPNN), who is also building the facility which was designed by local architecture firm JGMA.
