Initial Plans Revealed For Bronzeville Trail Parkway

Initial plans have been revealed for a new elevated park trail spanning the length of an abandoned Kenwood CTA tracks in Bronzeville. Plans for a recreation space on the aging infrastructure have been discussed as far back as 2005 and recently started solidifying with the creation of the Bronzeville Trail Task Force (BTTF) in 2020 to begin the community outreach and fundraising efforts to execute the concept. The task force is currently working on preliminary studies and budgets while seeking a formal designer for the project as well.

Funding Approved For Performance Arts Center At 4343 S Cottage Grove Avenue In Bronzeville

Funding has been approved for the construction of a new performing arts center at 4343 S Cottage Grove Avenue in Bronzeville. Located just north of the intersection with E 44th Street, the center will utilize an existing two-story masonry clad building on the Bronzeville Cultural Corridor. The project was conceptualized by local actor Harry Lennix who is working with developer Keith Giles, investor Mike Wordlaw, and local firm Nia Architects on the design of what Lennix envisions to become the “Black Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.”

Groundbreakings Announced For Two Fulton Market Projects

Potential groundbreaking have been announced for two Fulton Market projects after securing the land sale and anchor tenants this week. The two projects in question are the life sciences building at 400 N Elizabeth Street and the office building at 360 N Green Street, each led by different developers but delivering similar amounts of leasable space at each end of the quickly growing neighborhood. All together they will bring roughly 1 million square feet of new commercial space in an area poaching new leases at a faster rate than most.

Updated Details Revealed For Mixed-Use Development At 4000 W North Avenue In Humboldt Park

Updated details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 4000 W North Avenue in Humboldt Park. Dubbed Team Pioneros, the Invest South/West-winning project was presented to the Committee on Design this past week as it begins its journey towards groundbreaking. Park Row Development is working with a 100 percent Latinx-owned team led by local architecture firm JGMA who will not only be working on the design, but will be moving into the restored Pioneer Bank upon completion.

Funding And Land Sale Approved For Affordable Housing Development At 3401 W Ogden Avenue In North Lawndale

The Community Development Commission has approved funds and the land sale for a new mixed-use development at 3401 W Ogden Avenue in North Lawndale. Dubbed the Grace Manor Apartments, the new project on the corner of W Ogden Avenue and S Homan Avenue replaces a parking lot used by the nearby police station with a colorful new affordable housing structure. Co-developers East Lake Management and Jerusalem CDC tapped local architecture firm JGMA for the design of the low-rise hoping to help anchor a new wave of growth for the neighborhood.

Initial Plans Revealed For Mixed-Use Development At 535 N St. Clair Street In Streeterville

Initial details have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 535 N St. Clair Street in Streeterville. Located on the northeast corner with E Grand Avenue, the new structure will replace a three-story 255-space parking garage adjacent to some low-rise commercial and mid-rise residential buildings. Developer Mavrek Development is working with local architecture firm NORR on the design of the mid-rise that will bring new life to an often overlooked intersection.

Updated Details Revealed For Mixed-Use Development At 350 N Morgan Street In Fulton Market

Updated details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 350 N Morgan Street in Fulton Market. With new leases being signed and projects being revealed weekly, the building will be located on the intersection with W Carroll Avenue directly across the street from the quickly growing 345 N Morgan Street and from the Google Midwest headquarters. Developer Sterling Bay has tweaked the design with information being recently updated on their website for the Skidmore Owings & Merrill-designed structure.

Initial Details Revealed For The Redevelopment Of 900 N North Branch On Goose Island

Initial details have been revealed for the redevelopment of an existing commercial building at 900 N North Branch Street on Goose Island. Located just west of the intersection with N Halsted Street, the existing masonry-clad, industrial-style building most famously housed local culinary school Kendall College for many years and is now being pivoted as class A office space. Owner and developer W.P. Carey is working with Madison Rose on the project and are currently in the selection process for an architect to execute the renovations.

Initial Details Revealed For Residential Development At 301 S Green Street In The West Loop

Initial details have been revealed to the Committee on Design for a residential development at 301 S Green Street in the West Loop. Located on the south east corner W Jackson Boulevard, the new high rise will replace two low rise masonry commercial buildings and its parking lot. The team behind the building consist of co-developers GSP Development as well as GOLUB & Company with local architecture firm Goettsch Partners working on the design.

DCASE Completes Restoration Of Dome And Hall At The Chicago Cultural Center In The Loop

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events has announced the completion of the restoration of the Grand Army of the Republic rotunda and hall in The Loop. Located within the Chicago Cultural Center at 78 E Washington Street, the 125-year-old dome and hall were completed in 1897 in what was then the city’s main public library after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Thanks to a large special grant, the city was able to partner with Harboe Architects and Daprato Rigali studios to execute the year-long process that deployed cutting edge technology to peel back the layers to the building’s past.
