Groundbreaking Held For Chicago Fire Facility In Near West Side

A groundbreaking has been held for the upcoming Chicago Fire FC facility at 1434 S Loomis Street in the Near West Side. Replacing a large majority of Addams/Medill Park which is mostly vacant land, the roughly 30-acre project will bring new life to the area on the former site of four CHA complexes demolished in 2007. The team itself is leading the development with Crawford Architects working on its design.

Plan Commission Approves New School In South Chicago

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a new school structure at 8231 S South Shore Drive in South Chicago. Located just north of the intersection with E 83rd Street near Steelworks Park and Rainbow Beach, the proposal will replace a handful of smaller multi-story buildings as well as renovate the former St. Michaels School building. The school will serve as the new home for EPIC Academy which currently operates down the street and is developing the project designed by local firm JGMA.

Plan Commission Approves 1300 W Carroll In West Loop

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the latest plans for the mixed-use development at 1300 W Carroll Avenue in the West Loop. Located on the corner with N Elizabeth Street and replacing the former site of the ADM Wheat Mill Silos, the multi-phase project was recently revised and presented at a public meeting this past February with changes to the overall design and plan. Now Sterling Bay has received its first approval for the SOM-designed structure which was first proposed in 2021.

City Council Approves Mixed-Use Development In Near North Side

The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use development at 1549 N Fremont Street in the Near North Side. Sitting just southeast of the intersection with W North Avenue on a vacant lot surrounded by a Toyota dealership, the small building will infill a site originally proposed as an Aloft Hotel multiple years ago. Now after receiving Plan Commission approval earlier this year, developer City Pads Chicago is moving forward with the NORR Architects-designed structure.

CTA Announces Three Teams To Submit Bids For Red Line Extension

The Chicago Transit Authority has announced three-teams to submit proposals for the upcoming Red Line extension. First proposed under the Daley administration in the 1950’s, initial funding for the project was approved late last year leading to the three groups identified. These teams consist of Walsh VINCI Transit Community Partners, Kiewit Infrastructure, and a joint venture between BOWA, FH Paschen, Ragnar Benson, and Milhouse.
