City Council Approves Funding For Armour Institute Building In Bronzeville

The Chicago City Council has approved initial funding for the adaptive reuse of the Armour Institute building at 3300 S Federal Street in Bronzeville. Located on the western end of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) campus, it is commonly known as the main building, or main, by students and used to be the heart of the college in its earlier days as the Armour Institute. The renovation efforts are being co-led by MCM Company and Washington Park Development Group with local architecture firm Pappageorge Haymes working on its design.

Initial Renderings Revealed For NASCAR Chicago Street Race in 2023

Initial renderings have been revealed for the temporary structures for next year’s NASCAR Chicago Street Race within Grant Park. The race which was announced earlier this year has become a point of contention for many residents, as it will close off the green space often referred to as Chicago’s front lawn for even longer than it already is during the summer. The event is being led by NASCAR itself as it looked to bring racing closer to its audiences, with the city having a deep history in car events.

Groundbreaking Held For Mixed-Use Development At 6300 S Maryland Avenue In Woodlawn

A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the affordable mixed-use development at 6300 S Maryland Avenue in Woodlawn. Located on the southeast corner with S Maryland Avenue, the proposal is the first project being built under the Woodlawn Housing Preservation Ordinance which was approved in mid 2020. Dubbed Park Station, developer DL3 Realty, who is behind other projects in Woodlawn and Englewood has partnered with local firm FitzGerald Associates on the structure’s design.

Sister Cities: Nation’s Only Top-First Tower Rises In Detroit

Chicago YIMBY continues its Sister Cities series covering innovative and skyline-defining projects in the Midwest with another trip to Detroit. We originally kicked off the series with coverage of the Hudson’s Site skyscraper earlier this year and we now return to take a look at the Exchange Building nearby at 338 Gratiot Avenue near Greektown. New details have been revealed for a mixed-use development at 7603 N Paulina Street in Rogers Park. Located on the northeast corner with W Howard Street, the multi-phase project will replace a large one-story commercial building and eventually a historical multi-story storage building dating back to the 1920s and its adjacent parking lot. Developer Housing For All LLC is leading the effort for the affordable workforce housing proposal which was designed by Cordogan Clark & Associates.
