Chicago YIMBY’s 2022 year-end countdown comes to a close with the city’s current tallest project Salesforce Tower in River North. Located at the confluence of the Chicago River on the famed Wolf Point just west of N Orleans Street, the tower ranked third in last year’s countdown after having started construction during the pandemic in August 2020. Developer Hines partnered with the longtime landowner Joseph P. Kennedy Family on the tower designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, the firm of the late Argentine-born architect Cesar Pelli.

This week, the concrete core for Chicago’s Salesforce Tower reached its full height, marking a key milestone for the 60-story skyscraper rising at 333 W Wolf Point Plaza along the confluence of the Chicago River. As noted in a LinkedIn post by the general contractor Walsh Construction, the final height of the core stands 840 feet, falling in line with recent speculation of a 15-foot height bump. Furthermore, it appears that the final architectural height of the edifice will now be 850 feet above the river walk, once the superstructure is accounted for.
The concrete core for Salesforce Tower Chicago is now at roughly the two-thirds height mark, set to rise 60 stories at the southwest tip of River North. The 1.2 million-square-foot skyscraper at 333 W Wolf Point Plaza is the final staple in a three-building masterplan known as Wolf Point, developed by Hines and in partnership with the Joseph P. Kennedy Family. The Wolf Point parcel is just under three acres, occupying an outcrop that borders the confluence of the Chicago River. This land has served a swath of purposes since the first settling of Chicago, ranging from a parking lot prior to the current development all the way back to the site of the city’s first tavern.
Steel is now above the halfway point for Salesforce Tower Chicago, a 60-story skyscraper at the confluence of the Chicago River. Located at 333 W Wolf Point Plaza in River North and developed by Hines, the 1.2 million-square-foot structure will house primarily office space, as well as ground-level retail and tenant amenities. Each office floor will provide 24,500-square-foot floor plates, as well as flexible tenant build outs. Amenities will include a club-caliber fitness center, a conference center, and a tenant lounge. The anchor tenant, Salesforce, will also have top-level “Ohana” floor, similar to the one in San Francisco’s Salesforce Tower. Equipped sweeping city views, this level will serve as a lounge space for Salesforce employees during business hours and a venue for nonprofit and educational events during off hours.
