The Reed Surpasses Halfway Mark in South Loop

Construction has now passed the halfway mark for a 41-story residential building known as The Reed, located at 234 W Polk Street in South Loop. Developed by Lendlease, the building is the second of four structures in a masterplan known as Southbank. Lendlease’s plans for the structure include 224 rental apartments and 216 condominiums, for a total of 440 on-site units. The rental portion will occupy the ninth through 22nd floors, while the remaining floors above will be designated for the condominiums.

Updated Details Revealed For Mixed-Use Development At 3831 W Chicago Avenue In Humboldt Park

Updated details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 3831 W Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park. The project went in front of the Committee on Design earlier this month where the designers presented their concept to a panel of local architects. The new structure will replace an empty lot and three-masonry clad industrial buildings on the corner with N Avers Avenue. Developer 548 Development was present on the meeting along with designers Lamar Johnson Collaborative, both of which have had previous experience in affordable housing and Invest South/West proposals.

Construction in Full Swing for 160 N Morgan Street in Fulton Market

Foundation work is making quick headway for 160 N Morgan Street, a 30-story apartment building gearing up to rise in Fulton Market. At 350 feet, the tower will be one of the taller structures to rise as West Loop‘s development boom gains momentum. Developed in partnership between Sterling Bay and Ascentris, plans for the structure include 282 rental units, occupied by two levels of retail at its base.

Superstructure Surpasses Sixth Level for 166 N Aberdeen in Fulton Market

Now six stories high, structural work continues its climb for 166 N Aberdeen Street, a 21-story residential development in West Loop’s Fulton Market. Set to rise 241 feet and planned by development firm Greystar, this tower is one of several new additions for this cycle that will transform the Randolph Street corridor.

Foundation Work Progresses for Madison + Carpenter Condominiums in West Loop

Since YIMBY’s last update, additional rebar and concrete can be seen at 6 N Carpenter Street in West Loop, where developer ZSD plans for a six-story building with retail and 13 condominium residences. Having kicked off construction at the beginning of this year, the Madison + Carpenter development replaces four low-rise masonry buildings.

Funding And Land Sale Approved For Affordable Housing Development At 3401 W Ogden Avenue In North Lawndale

The Community Development Commission has approved funds and the land sale for a new mixed-use development at 3401 W Ogden Avenue in North Lawndale. Dubbed the Grace Manor Apartments, the new project on the corner of W Ogden Avenue and S Homan Avenue replaces a parking lot used by the nearby police station with a colorful new affordable housing structure. Co-developers East Lake Management and Jerusalem CDC tapped local architecture firm JGMA for the design of the low-rise hoping to help anchor a new wave of growth for the neighborhood.

Initial Plans Revealed For Mixed-Use Development At 535 N St. Clair Street In Streeterville

Initial details have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 535 N St. Clair Street in Streeterville. Located on the northeast corner with E Grand Avenue, the new structure will replace a three-story 255-space parking garage adjacent to some low-rise commercial and mid-rise residential buildings. Developer Mavrek Development is working with local architecture firm NORR on the design of the mid-rise that will bring new life to an often overlooked intersection.

Initial Details Revealed For Residential Development At 301 S Green Street In The West Loop

Initial details have been revealed to the Committee on Design for a residential development at 301 S Green Street in the West Loop. Located on the south east corner W Jackson Boulevard, the new high rise will replace two low rise masonry commercial buildings and its parking lot. The team behind the building consist of co-developers GSP Development as well as GOLUB & Company with local architecture firm Goettsch Partners working on the design.

Potential Groundbreaking Date Announced For 400 N Lake Shore Drive In Streeterville

A potential groundbreaking date has been revealed for the residential towers at 400 N Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville. Located on the long vacant site of the failed Chicago Spire development, the two new towers would partially utilize the foundation hole left by the Spire and provide a cap to the Ogden Slip. Developer Related Midwest who is also behind The 78 near the South Loop is working with globally famous skyscraper firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill on the design, the firm responsible for a number of Chicago’s major skyscrapers.

Drilling Begins for West Loop’s Embry Development

Caisson drilling has begun for the 15-story condominium high rise known as Embry, located at 21 N May Street in West Loop. This residential project by Sulo Development will house a total of 58 for-sale units, ranging from two- to four-bedroom residences and spanning from 1,828 and 5,187 square feet. This 207-foot-tall edifice will replace an empty lot that once housed a two-story masonry building.
