630 S Wabash Avenue Claims 24th Place In Countdown

Climbing into the 24th spot of Chicago YIMBY’s countdown is the mixed-use development at 630 S Wabash Avenue in the South Loop. Revealed in 2021, the tower replaces a vacant lot sandwiched between two low-rise buildings and is rising adjacent to 30 E Balbo Drive, which was completed a few years back on the nearby intersection. Development partners Melrose Ascension Capital and DAC Developments are working with local architects Antunovich Associates on its design, adding to the growing South Loop skyline.

West Loop’s “Embry” Condo Development Secures 27th Spot in Countdown

Having now surpassed the 12th floor, the condo development dubbed “Embry” has claimed the 27th spot in our year-end construction countdown. This 15-story, 207-foot-tall residential project at 21 N May Street has been planned by Sulo Development and will contain 58 total residences. Floor plans range from two- to four-bedroom units, with floor space occupying between 1,828 and 5,187 square feet.

Permits Issued For Homan Square Supportive Mixed-Use Development

A new construction permit has been issued for the first phase of a mixed-use development at 3437 W Flournoy Street in Homan Square. Dubbed the Homan Square Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) project, the three-site proposal is being built in multiple phases with the lots centering around S Homan Avenue just south of the highway. Hoping to tackle various housing issues, the locally-led Foundation for Homan Square is envisioning the project with popular design firm JGMA working on the buildings.
