The Chicago City Council has received the application for the mixed-use development at 8840 S Commercial Avenue in South Chicago. Dubbed Galleria 89, the Invest South/West project was the winner of a 2021 request for proposals and was recently approved by the Plan Commission as well. Developer 548 Capital is leading the project that will preserve an existing structure while adding affordable housing designed by Rivetna Architecture and Farr Associates.
A second permit has been issued for a residential project at 6044 N Winthrop Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood, replacing the existing surface parking lot. The property, under development by North Park Ventures, will be developed into a five-story structure providing both retail and residential spaces. The scope envisions 60,000 square feet of space, accommodating 64 residential units and 35 parking spaces.
A construction permit has been approved for a multifamily residential development to be built at 5829 S Wabash Avenue in Washington Park. The property will soon host a two-story, two-unit building with a basement, replacing an empty lot that was once occupied by a two-story frame building (demolished late 2014). The owner of this development is Shatha Williams, as detailed in the permit filing.
A construction permit has been granted for a residential development at 6427 S Rhodes Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood. Owned by Champlain Rhodes, LLC, the project will feature a two-story building with two dwelling units and a basement, set to be constructed on a formerly vacant grass lot.
Zoning has been approved for the residential development at 4553 N Dover Street in Uptown. Located on the southeastern corner with W Wilson Avenue and spread across two structures on an L-shaped lot, the project will demolish a one-story commercial building after receiving some updates earlier this year. Now the development team of Ayman Khalil and Kareem Musawwir can move forward with the Axios Architects-designed building.
