Sister Cities: A Look At Detroit’s Newest Skyline-Defining Hudson’s Site Skyscraper

Chicago YIMBY is putting the spotlight on significant developments in surrounding Midwestern cities in a new series of articles called Sister Cities. Today we are covering the new renderings released for the massive mixed-use Hudson’s Site development at 1208 Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. Located on the intersection with Grand River Avenue across the street from Detroit-native watchmaker Shinola’s Hotel, the new tower will become the city’s second tallest building behind the famed Renaissance Center. Local developer Bedrock Detroit is working along side of New York-based SHoP Architects on the design of the game-changing skyscraper.

Initial Details Revealed For Roseland Medical District Masterplan

The Chicago Committee on Design has reviewed the initial details for a new mixed-use medical masterplan in Roseland. The overall plan area is bound by W 110th Street to the north, S Michigan Avenue to the east, W 112th Street to the south, and S Eggleston Avenue to the west and is near to the recently opened Pullman National Monument. The project was brought forward by the Roseland Medical District Commission who is working with a team of designers led by local firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, all of which are helping to provide a zoning and phasing scheme for the upcoming developments.

Initial Plans Revealed For Residential Development At 4701 N Clark Street In Uptown

Initial plans have been revealed for a new residential project at 4701 N Clark Street in Uptown. Located just north of the intersection with W Leland Avenue near the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery on a stretch of road that is a part of the ongoing Clark Street Crossroads initiative, the new project will replace an existing one-story bank and drive-thru that is currently vacant. Developer Platinum Homes is working with local architecture firm 360 Design Studio on the new structure on the dominant corner.

Initial Funds Approval Granted For New Mixed-Use Development In Auburn Gresham

Initial Tax Increment Financing (TIF) approval has been granted by the Community Development Commission for a new mixed-use development at 757 and 838 W 79th Street in Auburn Gresham. Of the two sites, one is located on the intersection with S Green Street, and the other with S Halsted Street, both will be seeing new construction from the Invest South/West initiative winning project. Development team Evergreen Imagine, made up of Imagine Group and Evergreen Redevelopment, is working with local architecture firms Ross Barney Architects and Nia Architects on the revised proposal.

Initial Plans Revealed For A Mixed-Use Development In North Center

The Committee on Design has reviewed initial plans for a mixed-use development at 3950 N Damen Avenue and 3959 N Lincoln Avenue in North Center. Located on the six-corner intersection with W Irving Park Road, the two building proposal will replace a large parking lot and a MB Financial drive-thru bank west of Damen Avenue, as well redevelop and expand the existing 5/3 Bank building east of Lincoln Avenue. Developers CRG and Ravine Park Partners are working with local architecture firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative on the new design.
