Snatching the 28th spot in our year-end countdown is the redevelopment of the former Sears store at 4712 W Irving Park Road in Portage Park. Sitting on the six-corner intersection with N Cicero Avenue and N Milwaukee Avenue, the project adds density to the intersection anchored by Clarendale Six Corners which took the 31st spot in our 2021 countdown. Finishing touches are currently being added by developer and general contractor Novak Construction.

Excavation Begins for 1630 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop

Excavation is now underway for a 12-story apartment building at 1630 South Wabash Avenue in South Loop. This residential development, undertaken by CMK Companies, will house a total of 149 rental units. The building will be located on a previously vacant lot just east of the elevated CTA tracks. Its foundation and partial superstructure received a permit in late October, while the full construction permit is still pending.

Plan Commission Approves Thrive Exchange In South Shore

Plans have been approved for the first phase of Thrive Exchange at 7901 S Exchange Avenue in South Shore. Sitting right on the intersection with E 79th Street, the project will replace a pair of existing buildings next to the Cheltenham/79th Street Metra station. The proposal was approved by the Chicago Plan Commission, led by developer DL3 Realty and designed by local-firms KOO Architects and Site Design Group.

Updated Plans Revealed For 3950 N Damen Avenue In North Center

Updated plans for the mixed-use development at 3950 N Damen Avenue and 3959 N Lincoln Avenue in North Center. Located on the six-corner intersection with W Irving Park Road, the two-building proposal will replace a parking lot and drive-thru bank west of Damen and redevelop the existing bank structure on Lincoln. Developers CRG and Ravine Park Partners are working with local architecture firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative on the new design.
