Chicago YIMBY’s Sister Cities series continues as we take a look at the newest building rising to redefine the skyline of Milwaukee. Located at 909 E Michigan Street on the intersection with N Lincoln Memorial Drive in downtown, ‘The Couture’ replaces the previous Downtown Transit Center and is directly across the street from the lakefront and Summerfest grounds. Developer Barrett Lo Visionary Development has been working on the project for a few years with Milwaukee-based RINKA Architecture.
A new three-story, two-unit residential building has received permits at 1448 W Flournoy Street in Little Italy. The filing also calls for the main structure to be accompanied by a detached two-car garage with a rooftop deck.
Updated details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 4343-4357 N Richmond Street in Irving Park. Located on the southeast corner with W Montrose Avenue a few blocks west from Horner Park, the multiple-building proposal replaces the previous Twisted Hippo structure which burned down in February 2022. Now developer Alan Candea is working with local firm Compass Architecture on their design after receiving community feedback on an earlier iteration.
A new residential development has received a construction permit at 7430 N Hermitage Avenue in Rogers Park. Developed by GT Alternatives LLC, the project consists of a three-story building with six total units, a basement, front and rear balconies on each floor, trash enclosures, a five-foot metal fence, and six rear parking spaces. Peter Sterniuk is the listed architect of record.
The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use development at 1016 W Jackson Boulevard in the West Loop. Located on the intersection with S Morgan Street just southwest of Mary Bartelme Park, the new high-rise will replace a relatively young existing office building which was built 10-years ago. Now Mavrek Development is hoping to demolish the structure for the new BKV Group designed plan, with an additional lot across the alley for which no plans have been announced for.
