Mixed-Use Redevelopment Proposed for Old Orchard Mall in Skokie

Initial details have been revealed for the mixed-use redevelopment of the Westfield Old Orchard mall in Skokie. Located in Chicago’s northern suburbs on the southwest corner of Old Orchard Road and Skokie Boulevard, the mall first opened its doors with Marshall Fields in 1956 and has been a staple for the local community ever since. Paris-based owner and developer Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield is leading the plans which mimic similar approaches at other malls in America as they pivot to capture new shoppers and tenants.

Printers Row’s 633 S LaSalle Street Takes 22nd Place

Chicago’s 22nd tallest development in this year’s countdown is the 18-story 633 S LaSalle Street in Printers Row. Replacing a surface parking lot across the street from the rails of LaSalle Street station, the building will be located one block west from 2020’s 26th tallest entry, the Imprint apartment tower. Led by London-based developer The Collective, the co-living project was designed by local-firm Fitzgerald Associates along with Berkelhamer Architects and began excavation earlier this summer. As of now, the site is awaiting additional foundation work.

Details Revealed For Three Mixed-Use Towers At 370-401 N Morgan Street In West Loop

New details have been revealed for a pair of mixed-use skyscrapers at 370 and 400 N Morgan Street in the West Loop. Located on the west side of the intersection with W Kinzie Street, the multi-phase project will eventually see a third tower join it at 401 N Morgan Street on the northeast corner. All three structures will replace a mix of surface lots and existing one- to two-story industrial buildings just north of the Metra tracks. Developer Vista Property revealed the updated Gensler-designed plans for this month’s Committee on Design meeting.

630 S Wabash Avenue Claims 24th Place In Countdown

Climbing into the 24th spot of Chicago YIMBY’s countdown is the mixed-use development at 630 S Wabash Avenue in the South Loop. Revealed in 2021, the tower replaces a vacant lot sandwiched between two low-rise buildings and is rising adjacent to 30 E Balbo Drive, which was completed a few years back on the nearby intersection. Development partners Melrose Ascension Capital and DAC Developments are working with local architects Antunovich Associates on its design, adding to the growing South Loop skyline.
