Full construction permits have been issued for the residential development at 3431 N Ashland Avenue in Lake View. Located just south of the intersection with W Cornelia Avenue, the multi-phase project is replacing the 97-year-old Loyola Press building that used to occupy the site. Developer 3443 N Ashland LLC is working with Studio Dwell Architects on the design of the upcoming structure that joins the recently completed 3421 N Ashland Avenue directly next door which was phase I.
New permits have been issued for the residential conversion of the St. Boniface church at 1356 W Chestnut Street in West Town. Located on the northeast corner with N Noble Street, the long-standing church will finally see work begin on its units after multiple years of setbacks which involved the preservation of some interior elements previously set to be removed. Developer ZSD Corp is leading the project and working with SPACE Architects + Planners on this first phase of work.
The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a mixed-use development at 330 W Chestnut Street in the Near North Side. Located on the northeast corner with N Orleans Street, the vacant site was occasionally used for outdoor fitness classes and as a parking lot over the last two years. Developers Draper & Kramer and BlitzLake Partners have tapped local architecture firm FitzGerald Associates on the design for the structure that will be near the upcoming North Union mega-development.
Initial plans have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 2344 S Princeton Avenue in Chinatown. Located on the southwest corner with W 23rd Place, the new building will replace a 12,500-square-foot vacant lot that once held a few residential structures in the growing area. The team behind the project is Bridgeport-native Shengs Hautin LLC with locally based-Lucid Engineering Services working on its design, both companies are minority owned.
The Vautravers Building at 947 W Newport Avenue in Lake View has undergone additional work since it was lifted and moved last year. The historic three-story edifice was shifted west by 30 feet to accommodate the new tracks for the Red-Purple Modernization project. At 1,000 tons, the structure was prepared by using a system of jacks and bracing which were staged beneath the building, with ongoing, along with the installation of new copper paneling along the exterior.
