Sitting on the northwestern corner with W Roosevelt Road, the project was announced in 2021 and broke ground last year. The building replaces a parking lot owned by The Chicago Lighthouse who partnered with Brinshore Development on the LBBA Architects-designed structure.
Snatching the 28th spot in our year-end countdown is the redevelopment of the former Sears store at 4712 W Irving Park Road in Portage Park. Sitting on the six-corner intersection with N Cicero Avenue and N Milwaukee Avenue, the project adds density to the intersection anchored by Clarendale Six Corners which took the 31st spot in our 2021 countdown. Finishing touches are currently being added by developer and general contractor Novak Construction.
Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments, ranking 29th in the year-end countdown, is a nine-story affordable housing project at 1203 N California Avenue, adjacent to Humboldt Park. Occupying the site of a formerly vacant lot, this 83,000-square-foot structure honors the legacy of Puerto Rican activist Pedro Albizu Campos. The Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) spearheads the project, collaborating with Pappageorge Haymes for the architectural design. The development will incorporate 2,500 square feet of retail space on the first floor and 64 units of affordable housing on the upper levels.
Further details have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 1016 W Lake Street in Fulton market. Sitting adjacent to the CTA tracks on the intersection with N Carpenter Street, we first covered the proposal a month ago as its initial details were revealed. Now the development team of Cogswell Realty and Erol Stapleton have presented the M Moser Associates-designed building to the community.
The Zoning Board of Appeals has approved three variances for a new mixed-use development at 4640 N Western Avenue in Lincoln Square. This $26.7 million initiative developed by Macon Construction and designed by Hirsch MPG will involve a new six-story mixed-use building alongside the renovation of a 1920s-era, four-story building to the north. There will be a total 74 residential units and 3,900 square feet of retail space on the ground floor.
