1840 N Marcey Street Advances To Committee On Zoning

The mixed-use development at 1840 N Marcey Street in Lincoln Park has advanced to be reviewed by the Committee on Zoning. Located west of N Clybourn Avenue and across the river from Lincoln Yards, the proposal will replace a one-story commercial building near the recently announced 2033 N Kingsbury Avenue. Developer Sterling Bay is working with local-firm SCB on its design, adding to all of their other surrounding projects.

In this edition of the “Lost Legends” series, we delve into the history of The Loop‘s Masonic Temple Building, which stood tall from 1892 until the late 1930s. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Burnham and Root, the Masonic Temple Building was the city’s tallest from 1895 to 1899 (taking the title initially when the original Board of Trade Building had its clock tower removed, then surpassed by The Montgomery Ward Building), serving as an emblem of Chicago’s status as a global pioneer in architecture and engineering.

The mixed-use development at 1450 N Larrabee Street in Old Town is set to advance to the Committee on Zoning. The wedge-shaped site is bound by the angled portion of N Clybourn Avenue on the west side, with the vacant lot having been the home of the Near North Career Metropolitan High School. The development team is made up of the Chicago Housing Authority, Pennrose Properties, Hunt Companies, Imagine Group, and a Cabrini-Green resident group, with JGMA serving as the architect.

The facade of the 19-story mixed-use development at 210 N Aberdeen Street in Fulton Market is nearing completion. Spearheaded by LG Development Group, the “Arthur on Aberdeen” spans 420,000 square feet and occupies an L-shaped footprint, bordered by Aberdeen Street to the east and May Street to the west. The building will feature 363 residential units, with an additional 10,000 square feet allocated for retail.

A construction permit has been issued for the new upcoming community center 6623 S Dr Martin Luther King Jr Drive in West Woodlawn. Located just north of the intersection with E Marquette Road, the development has been in the works for multiple years and will be replacing a vacant lot currently occupied by a pop-up plaza. Developers Project H.O.O.D. and Trammell Crow Company are working with local architecture firm BNMO Design on the upcoming structure.
