Countdown’s 11th Tallest Tower Prepares to Rise at 225 N Elizabeth In Fulton Market

Foundation work is ready to give way to vertical construction for the mixed-use development at 225 N Elizabeth Street in Fulton Market District, where many of this year’s entries are. Located on the southeast corner with W Fulton Street, foundation work is currently well underway for the structure after it completed the removal of the previous empty surface lot on the site. Developers Sterling Bay and Colorado-based Ascentris have been leading the charge on the Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture-designed-structure.

North Union’s 868 N Wells Street Lands 12th Spot in Countdown

Coming in at #12 in Chicago’s tallest construction projects is 868 N Wells Street, a 27-story mixed-use building in Near North Side. The tower is the second addition to JDL‘s North Union megadevelopment. This expansive $1.3 billion masterplan encompasses a total of 2.9 million square feet of space, 2,656 residences, a multitude of commercial units, and 100,000 square feet of public areas. This comprehensive plan is designed to bring a variety of resources and amenities to the local community.

Outer Walls Take Shape for HUGO Development in River North

The exterior walls have been placed for HUGO, a two-building mixed-use project by LG Development in River North. Located at 751 N Hudson Avenue and 411 W Chicago Avenue, the pair of nine-story structures will encompass a total of 230,000 square feet of floor space. This project will bring a total of 227 new apartments to the neighborhood, as well as 19,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The two buildings will be situated close to one another, separated by an existing two-story, masonry low rise.

1475 N Kingsbury Street Takes 13th in Construction Countdown

Number 13 in YIMBY’s year-end countdown is the 27-story mixed-use tower at 1475 N Kingsbury Street, part of Structured Development’s Shops at Big Deahl in Near North Side. At 299 feet in height, the high rise will house a combination of ground-level retail and a total of 327 apartment units.

Fulbrix Apartments Places 14th In Year-End Countdown

Ranking #14 in YIMBY’s year-end construction countdown is 160 N Elizabeth Street, a 27-story mixed-use tower progressing in the final steps of its facade installation. Located in the west end of the Fulton Market District and developed by Moceri + Roszak, the 293-foot-tall building, now named “Fulbrix,” will feature 9,000 square feet of retail space and 375 rental units. In accordance with the ARO planning regulations, 20 percent of these units will be affordably priced and include a variety of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences, many of which will boast private balconies.

Updated Renderings Revealed For Mixed-Use Tower In West Loop

Updated renderings have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 1016 W Jackson Boulevard in West Loop. Set to replace an existing office building just west of the intersection with S Morgan Street, news on the project broke late this October and just now had its first community meeting where the images were shown. Chicago-based Mavrek Development is behind the proposal with architecture firm BKV Group crafting its design, who also worked on the proposed structures at 525 S Wabash Avenue.

410 S Wabash Avenue Breaks Into The 15th Spot Of Countdown

Capturing the 15th spot in this year’s countdown is the mixed-use development at 410 S Wabash Avenue in The Loop. Located on the southwest corner with E Van Buren Street, the structure will replace a vacant surface lot directly adjacent to the famed CTA tracks that give the neighborhood its name. North Carolina-based developer Lennar Multifamily Company which recently rebranded as Quarterra is behind the project along with architecture firm Antunovich Associates on its design.

Final Touches Spotted at Platform 4611 in Uptown

With construction nearly complete, work is wrapping up for a nine-story mixed-use development known as “Platform 4611” in Uptown. The 103-foot-high edifice, located at 4611 N Broadway, is jointly being developed by John Buck Company and Free Market Ventures. The project will feature 200 rental apartments and 12,000 square feet of retail space on the bottom level.

808 N Cleveland Avenue Seizes 16th Place in Year-End Countdown

Placing 16th in Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown, construction is wrapping up for 808 N Cleveland Avenue, a 23-story mixed-use tower in Near North Side. Standing 260 feet to its pinnacle, the high-rise is being constructed on a formerly overgrown trapezoidal site and is set to provide 7500 square feet of retail space, 200 rentable apartments, and 20,000 square feet of office space.

741 N Wells Street Claims 19th Spot In Year-End Countdown

Coming in at the 17th spot in this year’s countdown is the mixed-use development at 741 N Wells Street in River North. Located just south of the intersection with W Chicago Avenue, the project replaces a one-story commercial building that previously held a furniture store and was demolished to make way for the quickly growing Wells Street canyon. Developer Vista Property Group, who recently proposed 640 W Randolph Street in West Loop Gate, used the same team from Antunovich Associates on this design as well.
