Plan Commission Approves 2 New Developments, 3 Towers in West Loop

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved two projects bringing a total of three new towers to the ever-growing West Loop. Both projects have recently gone through design updates after receiving feedback from the Committee on Design and will now be able to move forward to the Chicago City Council for final approval. The projects consist of the two-tower project at 315 N May Street and 1112 W Carroll Avenue and the new life-science building at 400 N Elizabeth Street.

Foundation Work Progresses for Marquette Companies’ 513 S Damen Avenue in Illinois Medical District

Caisson work can now be seen at 513 S Damen Avenue, the site of a planned 22-story mixed-use tower in the Illinois Medical District. Plans for the 230-foot-tall tower indicate 1,000 square feet of ground-level retail and 279 apartments on the upper floors. The construction is replacing a former surface parking lot at the northwest corner of the block bound by Damen Avenue, Congress Parkway, Ogden Avenue, and Harrison Street.

Located at 2050 W Ogden Avenue, the project is set to yield 161 rental units atop ground-level retail. Rezoning for a new mixed-use project has been approved by the Committee on Zoning at 5416 W Belmont Avenue in Belmont Cragin. The project involves the gutting and remodeling of an existing retail building and adding a new two-story residential addition above. The site is bound by a public alley to the north, a parking lot to the east and a one-story car wash to the east. The expanded design is being completed by local architecture firm IR Design Firm.
