Eight residential units have been permitted for an empty lot at 4536 South Prairie Avenue in Bronzeville neighborhood of Grand Boulevard. The four-story masonry building will be complimented by a detached masonry four-car garage at the rear of the property, accessed from the alley off 46th Street. The permit was issued on April 16, just 37 days after its application was filed on March 10. It indicates a reported construction cost of $1.67 million.

Surface Work Continues At Parkside Phase III On The Near North Side

Construction crews continue to work at ground level of Parkside Phase III on the Near North Side. On a previous visit in December, site prep was underway, as excavators began tearing up concrete and asphalt that used to cover the lot. Now, they’re progressing on foundation work for the three entities that comprise the third phase.

1633 South Jefferson Street construction permitted

Two Units Permitted On Empty Lot Next To Jefferson Park On The Lower West Side

A two-story, two-unit building has been permitted for construction at 1633 South Jefferson Street on Chicago’s Lower West Side. The location, a long-empty lot next to the recently-built Thomas Jefferson Park and playground, straddles the boundaries of Pilsen and the South Loop. The permit was issued on April 8, with an application date of February 7. It shows a reported construction cost of $3,303, which is probably not accurate.

Site Prep Underway For “The Lake” At 205 West Superior In River North

Site prep is underway at 205 West Superior Street in River North for The Lake, a private social club on the southwest corner of Wells and Superior Streets. Foundation work was permitted back in November, but the site had remained idle after demolitions of the two structures previously at this location were completed last year.

7346 South Peoria Street renovation permit

Permit Issued To Rehab Multi-Unit Residence At 7346 South Peoria Street In Englewood

The City of Chicago has issued a renovation permit for 7346 South Peoria Street in Englewood. The approval will allow the new owner, Stone Equity Inc of Arlington Heights, to rescue the home after purchasing it in September of last year for $50,000. They applied for the permit on January 9, and it was approved on April 11. It comes with a reported construction cost of $30,000.

Northwestern University’s New Ryan Field Rises In Evanston

Construction progress at Northwestern University’s Ryan Field is becoming more visible from the perimeter, as steel columns and metal decking rise to form the stadium’s shell. The first piece of structural steel was set in place back in November, and now the Wildcats are doing their best Steelers impression, as iron work rises throughout the Evanston construction site.

Demolition has yet to begin on the small retail plaza at 4313 North Lincoln Avenue in North Center, but the construction permit for the residential building taking its place has been issued. Demo fencing has been set up around the plaza’s perimeter since a previous visit last month, shortly after permission to tear the buildings down came through, but Precision Excavation’s on-site equipment has yet to dig in.

Caisson Work Continues Full Bore At Bally’s Casino In River West

An army of foundation equipment continues drilling and filling caissons for the new Bally’s Chicago Casino in River West. It has been one month since the permit was issued on March 14 to get started on the site, and Stalworth Underground, whose machinery had been moved into place once demolition of the Chicago Tribune Freedom Center was complete, started caisson efforts immediately.

3330 West Roosevelt Road renovation permit

Permission Granted To Transform Homan Square Multi-Plex Into Indoor Soccer Facility

A renovation permit was issued last week by the City of Chicago to turn an empty theater complex in the Homan Square neighborhood into an indoor soccer field and sports facility. The approval allows Chicago Sports, Inc to transform the former Cinemas Entertainment multi-plex in Lawndale Plaza at 3330 West Roosevelt Road. The application for the permit was filed on October 2 of last year, and permission was granted on April 11, a wait of 191 days. The permit indicates a reported construction cost of just $120,000.

Happy Village Progress Marked By Two-Story Expansion Next Door

Renovation and expansion work on what was once the Happy Village bar is progressing well on Wolcott Avenue in the East Village neighborhood of West Town. A summer 2024 visit to the site showed little more than the north portion of the original building gutted, with barren space behind it and to the south. Now, lot where the demolished single-story portion of the bar used to sit has been improved with a two-story building that stretches to the rear of the construction site.
