A vacant lot across the street from Dvorak Park and just north of Cermak Road in Pilsen will soon be improved with a three-story plus basement, two-unit residential building. A permit was issued for 2130 South May Street on January 21, five months after its application date of September 30, 2025. It came through from its 113-day wait with a reported cost of $520,000.
When we stopped by 629 West Lake in the West Loop late last month, we surmised that the presence of an excavator a block south at 135 North Desplaines Street might indicate the beginning of another construction project. Nailed it. A follow-up visit on February 3 showed a crew on site, not only prepping the lot, but doing excavation work and driving piles along the parcel’s south lot line.
Two permits issued within a week’s time will allow a pair of projects on the same Lincoln Park block to complete large-scale renovations of existing buildings. Each includes the transformation of hospitality spaces to residential use, with one a shuttered hotel, the other Single Room Occupancy building.
Chicago’s loftiest tower crane has reached its full height. The long saga of 400 Lake Shore’s sixth and final tower crane jump has finally come to a safe conclusion. The last segments were lifted to the top of the tower and put in place Sunday February 1st, completing a task that began three weeks ago.
The first windows have been installed on the south end of the residential construction at 629 West Lake Street in the West Loop. Soon, the palletized windows stacked just inside the outer walls will be added to the facade as well.
