Demolition Permit Issued For Former Branko’s Sandwich Shop In Lincoln Park

A demolition permit has been issued for a two-story masonry building at 1118 West Fullerton Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. It was the former home of Branko’s Sandwich Shop, a DePaul campus stalwart for almost 50 years. The restaurant closed in 2024, and the building, erected in 1908 and owned by the Branko family, sold earlier this year for $1.1 million, according to real estate records. The permit, issued June 11th, names Precision Excavation as the demolition contractor, at a reported cost of $29,500.

Ten Affordable Single-Family Homes Permitted For North Lawndale Neighborhood

The Lawndale Christian Development Corporation has received permission this month to build 10 affordable single-family homes in the North Lawndale neighborhood. Eight permits were issued on June 10, one on June 9, and one on June 5. Their applications were filed between November 2024 and January of this year, and each permit shows a reported construction cost of $300,000.

Permission has been granted by the City of Chicago to build a three-story, three-unit residential building at 2929 West Washington Boulevard in Garfield Park. Cipher Construction LLC is named as the general contractor, and is registered to the same Oak Park address as the listed owner of the property. The application to build was filed on March 28, and it came through on May 29 with a reported construction cost of $600,000.
