Westhaven Park IID adds four-story portion to topped-out tower

The four-story portion of the Westhaven Park IID project on the south end of the construction site has reached its final height on the Near West Side. We showed you the topped-out 12-story tower back in February; now, both portions are at final height and have been enclosed with windows. This development replaces an empty grass lot bounded by Maypole Avenue, Damen Avenue, and Lake Street. Its construction is running concurrent with the CTA Damen Green Line station across the street.

Renderings revealed for residential building at 1723 S Michigan Avenue in the South Loop

Renderings have been revealed for the 12-story residential building currently under construction at 1723 S Michigan Avenue in the South Loop. Images from design firm Gensler show a smooth glass finish, with north- and south-facing balconies on all residential floors. Colorful murals accent the north and south ends of the podium, while columns frame the Michigan-Avenue-facing first-floor retail spaces.

Kensington School is building an early childhood education center at 1745 N Damen Avenue in Wicker Park, and construction progress is beginning to rise above street level. This is the fourth Kensington School location in Chicago, and the 17th overall.

Related Midwest hosts groundbreaking ceremony for 400 Lake Shore skyscraper development

Related Midwest hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, June 17, at the construction site of 400 Lake Shore, their new two-tower residential development in Streeterville. Repurposing the former Chicago Spire site, the 72-story North Tower is currently under construction; the South Tower will follow. The North Tower will deliver 635 residential units, with 20% of them set aside as affordable.

Construction on the CTA Damen Green Line station continues on the city’s Near West Side

Construction on the Perkins&Will-designed CTA Damen Green Line station continues heading toward completion on Chicago’s Near West Side. Announced by the Emanuel administration in 2017 but delayed by a variety of factors form its originally scheduled opening in 2020, much progress has now been made to this point.

Windows are in at topped-out Roosevelt Square Phase 3B in Little Italy

Roosevelt Square Phase 3B, a 67-unit apartment building from the Chicago Housing Authority and Related Midwest, has topped out in the Little Italy neighborhood. Located at 1002 S Racine Avenue, the six-story building has its windows in place and is now awaiting the start of exterior cladding.

Full building permit issued for 220 North Ada

220 North Ada received a full building permit on June 12, allowing general contractor Clayco to take the new apartment tower to its full 29-story height. Working in tandem with concrete contractor Adjustable Concrete Construction, the core is rising on site now, while a parking ramp is taking shape. As of Friday, crews have reached the underside of the second floor across most of the half-block-long site.

Six-unit residential building nears completion at 1218 W Belmont Avenue in Lake View

A four-story, six unit residential development at 1218 W Belmont Avenue in Lake View appears to be nearing the finish line. The building, designed by AP Architects LLC, bears the address of 1218 for its west portion, and 1216 for its east portion. Belmont Development, LLC is the property owner, with Heritage Builders of Wilmette serving as the general contractor, according to the New Construction Permit issued by the City of Chicago back in July of 2022.

Approved in May, 400 North Elizabeth gets a demolition permit in June

Just three weeks after the Chicago Plan Commission approved construction for 400 North Elizabeth, it has received a demolition permit. The Plan Commission meeting was held May 16; the demo permit was issued June 6. That means activity is imminent on the two-story, 724-unit apartment development in the Fulton Market District of the West Loop.

New tower crane in the South Loop will allow 1723 South Michigan to go vertical

Chicago’s newest tower crane has been erected in the South Loop, allowing a 13-story residential building at 1723 S Michigan Avenue to begin its ascent. 1723 South Michigan is a 149-unit rental tower from developer CMK Companies, and is designed by Gensler.
