Foundation work is underway for the forthcoming Bathhouse at 8 North Morgan Street in the West Loop. Work to drive piles for the building wrapped up a couple months ago, and now excavation is complete and rebar is being formed for the facility’s lower level.
Two demolition permits issued by the City of Chicago on the final day of October will usher in redevelopment on the 1600 block of North Halsted Street in Lincoln Park. Those two buildings were home to the Royal George Theatre, which closed in 2020. Precision Excavation has been contracted to tear down 1633 and 1649 North Halsted Street, which entail a four-story and two-story building plus a parking deck.
A permit was issued on October 2 by the City of Chicago to allow construction of a two-story, two-unit residential building at 6440 South Champlain Avenue in Woodlawn. Greenline Homes, who is both the developer and general contractor, waited just two weeks after applying to build on September 22. The reported cost of the permit is $496,000.
A permit has been issued by the City of Chicago to erect a three-unit residential building with ground-floor commercial space at 545 West 31st Street in Bridgeport. Granted on October 15, the permit shows an application date of August 5 and a reported cost of $1.72 million, seemingly high for such a project.
Exteriors are nearing completion for the new residential development from the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation at 1237 North California Avenue in Humboldt Park. Construction on the six-story, 40-unit development has been underway since August 2024.
