As the Thompson Center inches closer to full installation of its new glass skin, a permit has been issued to allow interior renovations for the future Google Chicago headquarters. Previous permits have shown The Prime Group under JRTC (James R Thompson Center) Holdings LLC as the developer, but this one names Google as the building’s owner.
The 66th floor is ready to pour at the 72-story 400 Lake Shore North Tower on the doomed Chicago Spire site in Streeterville. Weather hasn’t been particularly kind over the past few weeks, slowing progress down a bit. But crews from LR Contracting and BOWA construction continue to plug away, and they’re now just a handful of stories from topping out. There is exterior glass wrapping the tower up to but not yet completing the 47th floor.
A permit was issued by the City of Chicago on December 15 to begin construction at 6541 South Maryland Avenue in Woodlawn. Calling for a three-story, three-unit residence, the permit shows an application date of October 10, 2025, and it came through with a reported cost of $450,000.
A demolition permit and a permit for new construction issued on December 3, 2025 mean the end of Lola’s Coney Island, a fast-food joint at the corner of West Chicago and North Francisco Avenues in Humboldt Park. Lola’s announced their closure in an Instagram post on October 30, though they will still operate their food truck.
Two new construction permits for three-unit residences have been permitted for vacant lots at 1257 and 1261 South Fairfield Avenue in the Douglass Park neighborhood. Both applications were applied for on September 19, 2025, and they came through exactly three months later on December 19 with reported costs of $420,000 apiece.
