Tower Crane Permitted For 33-Story Residential Building At 410 North Elizabeth

For the second time in a 14-month span, a tower crane has been permitted to construct the first residential tower of the two proposed at 410 North Elizabeth in the Fulton Market District. Weldon Development Group has approval for 33-story and 31-story structures here, and they received a tower crane permit in December 2024 and a caisson permit in June 2025 to get started on the taller building, but work has yet to kick off.

The six-story brick and timber loft office building 168 North Clinton Street in the West Loop was permitted for demolition on January 22. Built in 1889, the structure’s first floor served as the Haymarket Branch of the United States Postal Service in recent years, before closing in 2021.

A trio of condominiums have been approved for construction at 3039 North Kenmore Avenue in Lake View. A permit application filed by the developer on December 3 of last year came through on February 17 with a reported cost of $1.2 million.

Second Tower Crane Jump Complete At Bally’s Casino

Another tower crane jump was completed successfully at the Bally’s Casino hotel tower in River West over the weekend. Three growth spurts for the crane were approved with one permit back on November 13 of last year; we can expect to see one more jump here before the tower tops out.

One of Chicago’s two tower cranes working on renovation projects has fulfilled its duty to the city and has been dismantled. At the Thompson Center in The Loop, Clark Construction has completed the heavy lifting for Google’s transformation of their new Chicago headquarters. Shedd Aquarium now has Chicago’s lone crane not working on new construction.

On our last site visit to River North last month, we got a glimpse of foundation work at 227 West Chicago Avenue. Work had just started, and only included one corner of the construction site. Now, that progress has spread to the entire footprint as efforts ramp up on the new residential building.

A two-flat residence has been permitted for construction by the City of Chicago for a vacant lot at 724 West 26th Street in Bridgeport. A private developer applied for the permit on September 13 of last year, and it came through on January 22 with a reported cost of $500,000.

A private developer registered to an address in Hoffman Estates applied for the permit on September 11 of last year, and it came through on February 4 with a reported cost of $300,000.

A private developer applied for a building permit on November 9 of last year, and it came through on January 20 with a reported cost of $500,000.

Foundation work is underway for Club Grace, a residential development at 1801 West Grace Street in North Center. Demolition of the one-story industrial shed on the site wrapped up in December, and last week, an excavator was spotted getting the digging started.
