The new construction permit was issued on January 31 for the tower crane that will build 370 North Morgan in the Fulton Market District. While that doesn’t necessarily mean construction will be get started in the immediate future, it’s a good sign that activity could begin soon. Skender will be the general contractor; as the concrete contractor, McHugh Concrete will oversee tower crane operation.
There are pending permits in the Chicago Data Portal addressing grade beams, stormwater management, and the full building for 370 North Morgan; when the grade beams are given permission, that should signify that work is ready to roll. Developer Vista Property Group announced an anticipated start to construction in the first quarter of 2025, so this is definitely a positive step in that direction.
370 North Morgan is a 32-story, 494-unit residential tower. Plans by Antunovich Associates include a four-story podium with retail space and 190 parking spots. The site is bound by Metra tracks to the south, Kinzie Street to the north, and Carpenter and Morgan Streets on the west and east sides. Fox Deluxe Foods was torn down in October of last year to clear the space.
This is the second tower crane permit issued for the neighborhood in the past two months. One was issued for 410 North Elizabeth back in December; as is the case at 370 North Morgan, no other permits have been issued for that site, so construction is not yet underway.

This just doesn’t look good for the folks constantly betting against Chicago…
Has this city always been entrenched in such a doomer mentality?
Almost 500 units. This one will be quite impactful on the ground level; with hundreds of new folks adding to foot traffic, the jack-o-lantern of what is the West Loop is starting to fill in nicely. The entire corridor of the train tracks is still relatively sparse.
