Permits have been issued for the redevelopment of the mixed-use structure at 1934 W North Avenue in Wicker Park. Sitting on the corner with N Winchester Avenue near the heart of the neighborhood, we originally covered the project last year as it was approved by the Plan Commission.

The three-story building currently holds a gym and was once The Real World House Chicago in 2001. The redevelopment of it is being led by local developer Envoi Partners LLC, with SEEK Design + Architecture working on the plans. Those call for a partial restoration of the original facade, including opening up new doors and windows on the ground floor.

This will allow for the split of the 2,590 square-foot retail space on the corner from the existing main door that will take up to the new residential units. The top floors will contain eight apartments made up of studios, one-, and two-bedroom layouts. There will be no parking spaces added to the building, which currently has none.

Along with the aforementioned added windows and doors, the ground floor will receive a new facade with a black finish and corner signage. With all approvals in hand and permits issues, construction should commence soon with Anthony’s Construction set to serve as the general contractor.

  1. I’ll always remember it as Urbus Orbis but it’s great to see it given a life extension.
