A new substation is being built over the right-of-way at Morgan Street in the West Loop, part of the CTA’s Forest Park Branch Rebuild project along the Blue Line. A new construction permit was issued on August 1, 2023 to begin work. F.H. Paschen took over as the general contractor with the issuance of a revision on November 24 that same year.
The lot at Lake Street and Desplaines Avenue in the West Loop is ready for construction of a new residential development now that the Fast Track restaurant is gone. The single-story stalwart was permitted for demolition back in August of last year, but remained standing until January. Demo work was swift once it officially got started. Up next for the property is the eight-story, 49-unit apartment building at 629 West Lake Street from Fulton Market Suites LLC, with Chicago Common Partners handling general contractor duties.
Construction progress has risen above foundation level for the Kensington School West Loop at 1220 West Adams Street in the West Loop. General contractor Charles Hall Construction got started on the building last fall, after receiving permission to begin on August 26, 2024. Charles Vincent George Architects is the architect of record, as they have been for each Kensington School development in the city.
New renderings have been released for the mixed-use development at 23 S Sangamon Street in the West Loop. Sitting on the corner with W Monroe Street, the building will replace a vacant lot and is the third iteration in recent times. This new proposal is still being led by local developer Fern Hill with Free Market Ventures.
