Brickwork Covers Facade At 629 West Lake in The West Loop

Brick work has taken over the exterior on the apartment building at 629 West Lake Street in the West Loop. A mast-climbing work platform remains attached to the west elevation as masonry work continues. There are still some windows that need to be installed on the west façade, and plenty of work remains at street level to enclose the first floor, which will include 2,000 square feet of retail space, a storage room for 49 bicycles, and two indoor parking spaces.

Second Of Two Concrete Cores Nears Top Floor At 135 North Desplaines In The West Loop

Strategically stacked concrete block is nearing full height for elevator and stair cores at 135 North Desplaines Street in the West Loop neighborhood. The two cores contain the building’s three means of vertical circulation, with one stairwell by itself near the center of the structure, with the second stairwell and the elevator shaft sharing the south core. The first stairwell has topped out at nine stories; the south core is at the eighth level.

566 West Van Buren tower crane base planted

Caissons and foundation work are done and the first signs of verticality are rising from the ground for the residential building at 566 West Van Buren in the West Loop. What’s more, Wednesday marked the arrival of the Potain MR418 tower crane base. A concrete crew from Adjustable Concrete Construction was pouring the crane’s pad with help from a few red-and-white-striped Ozinga trucks that came and went while we were watching.

City Council Approves Residential Development In West Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the residential development at 1201 West Kinzie Street in the West Loop. The project was announced just around a year ago and most recently received Plan Commission approval last month. Efforts are being led by local developer LG Group, which is also behind 170 North May Street nearby.

Projects Ongoing For Entirety Of Fulton Market Block

Major changes are underway for an entire city block at the heart of Fulton Market. Bound by West Fulton Street to the south, North Sangamon Street to the west, and North Peoria Street to the east, three different projects are underway at various stages of planning, with the last remaining piece now going up for sale by its current owner.

Mixed-Use Tower Fully Approved At 1338 West Lake Street In West Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use proposal at 1338 West Lake Street in the West Loop. In the works for a few years now, the high-rise would sit on the corner with North Ada Street and replace a large vacant lot that formerly housed Hindman Auctioneers until its demolition late last year. Plans were also approved by the Plan Commission earlier this year.

We continue our streak of approvals from the Committee on Zoning from this past week’s meeting with the mixed-use development at 1338 West Lake Street in the West Loop. Sitting on the corner with North Ada Street, the boxy tower has been in development for a few years now and most recently received approval from the Plan Commission after some redesigns.

The Chicago Committee on Zoning has approved plans for the upcoming residential development at 1201 West Kinzie Street in the West Loop. Sitting on the corner with Racine Avenue, the proposal is part of nearly 2,000 units approved by the committee this week after a three-month recess as it works to establish a new head chair member.

Caissons Go Full Bore At 566 West Van Buren In West Loop

The six-story loft office building at 168 North Clinton Street in the West Loop was permitted for demolition on January 22. It has taken some time to get preliminary work done inside the building in preparation for the razing, but that’s been accomplished now, and demo work is expected to begin in earnest within the next two week.
